My new old pedal attainment

From the Land of the Rising Sun! You may not have noticed where I wasn't 100% delighted with my Maxon Pro Chorus. The Maxon is a fine pedal to be sure, especially build quality, which is waaay OTT. I suppose I was looking for a more dramatic effect, as the Max was somewhat subtle. I was fortunate to sell the Maxon then, to fund 50% of this purchase price( paid way more for the Maxon , and they just do not hold enough resale value)

So went to my chief procurement officer, cleared it with budgeting, and sourced a beautiful MIJ CE-2 Black label ( not "silver screw) for what I believe to be a very reasonable price considering it looks almost perfect besides a blemish near the output jack. I actually had one of these and sold it cause i needed money, so had to outlay a lot more cash, but sold the Max( wish I could have just kept it, but funds would not allow).

These things go up and up in price- no doubt they out perform the Standard and Poors Index

This Ce-2 just gets the Chorus-y effect that I want to hear in my brain. Beautiful effect tone, Lovin' it, and will never sell;

Did the book come with it?

Re: My new old pedal attainment

I've tried a few others over the years, but the CE-2 is the chorus for me. I bought my first one in 1980, I believe. My present one is an early MIK, which I got because, with its lesser collector's value, I wouldn't feel guilty about modding it slightly. Nothing major, just a power mod so it runs off a normal 9-volt supply, and a bright orange LED.

Re: My new old pedal attainment

I've got a silver screw CE-2, but it isn't nearly as clean as this one.

+1 to being "the chorus". I've owned a bunch over the years but I'll never sell my CE-2.

Re: My new old pedal attainment

I see a lot of comments in forums, Reddit, etc. that seem to indicate the CE-2 is the old Boss chorus to get. I have a CE-3 which sounds great to me. Is the CE-2 regarded as the better pedal of the two?

Yes!

Tip: The CE-2Waza is real, real, real, real close. But you might find a vintage pedal for less. Or not.

Definitely. I've played a bunch of CE-3s and they all sounded like thin, tinny crap compared to my CE-2.

Re: My new old pedal attainment

I think the CE-2 is the one to have. Or, the Dimension pedals, which are the chorus pedals I really like.

Re: My new old pedal attainment

Nice! I've got a taiwanese CE2 and it's the only Chorus pedal I'd ever use. I hate Chorus normally but this one sounds thick and warm.

Just FYI, you might want to do a quick search regarding the internal trim pots.
You can adjust the wet/dry ratio to a certain point from inside, to make it a bit more subtle or present.

Re: My new old pedal attainment

Of the straight up Boss Chorus pedals - that's my favorite.

I dig the SC-1, and also the Dimension, as Dave mentioned. But for straight up chorus - there you go!

Re: My new old pedal attainment

It's always made me wonder exactly why any Boss pedal that added a tone control thinned out the sound, compared to the ones without one.
