My new toy(PRS content)

I decided to sell a couple of guitars and buy a special instrument that I can enjoy and hopefully pass onto my son. I wanted a somewhat vintage investment guitar that I coud actually afford(unlike many old Gibbys or Fenders). Here is what I ended up with:

1994 PRS McCarty(1st year)
Dragon pups/birds
Brazilian board?(tough to tell for me)
Smaller old-school signature on the headstock

This one is not signed by McCArty but the serial number actually predates the signed ones...my understanding is that there actually were some made before the "first 100" were signed. I'm not sure if this fact is good or bad. Nice subtle flame that dances in the light. Completely handmade since it came out before 1995(from what I have read). I'm excited. The only bad news is I promised myself I would sell my beloved Hamer USA Studio Custom to help pay for it(this will hurt). Here she is. How did I do?

I love the belly cut. The neck isn't nearly as fat as I was expecting which I am happy about. Resonance no better than my Hamer, but darn good. The biggest suprise is these Dragon pups. Very articulate. Every string rings nice and clear. Neck jazzy.

Re: My new toy(PRS content)

looks gorgeous and the swirly sort of RW on the fretboard is indicative of brazilian.

good score man. clips needed!!

Re: My new toy(PRS content)

Awesome! My #1 is a '96 McCarty and once you have one, it's never enough. I definitely need more in the future.

Re: My new toy(PRS content)

Breathtaking.

I nearly got a PRS but I just can't jive with that fatass neck :oo

very nice!!! i LOVE that color/finish!!!

NEW STUFF ROCKS!!! :headbang:

Re: My new toy(PRS content)

Looks great! Nice choice!

Yes, that's a Braz board.

IIRC, pre-1995 does not actually mean "pre factory," which is a common "misconception" among many people selling pre-1995 PRS guitars. ;) They were still largely constructed on a production line - the difference is that in '95 PRS moved to a much larger facility and started using CNC machines to do the rough cutting of their bodies and necks instead of the older mills and autolathes they were using.

Still, that's a very nice axe that you can expect to appreciate in value. Congrats!

That's a nice one, and it's the perfect year for collectibility. Great classic finish too.
94's will someday fetch high dollars. You should have a McCarty pickup set, if those didn't come stock, just to make it original down the road.

WTF is that? lol

Maybe I need to not get out more. Ironically though, I do have pretty chunky mitts. They just cramp up easier on big necks during faster riffage.

Pups are original. First McCartys had Dragons with covers. Then later a different cover (for less tarnishing) and a very slight tweak to become the Actual "mcCarty" pups. Basically they are the same pups, with or without covers.

Beauty of a guitar ThunderLung. I still think that the McCarty is Paul's absolute best design.

Re: My new toy(PRS content)

That's a beauty for sure but it sucks you'll have to sell your Hamer USA Studio Custom to pay for it.

Re: My new toy(PRS content)

VERY nice guitar, great choice. I have a friend with a PRS McCarty, newer one, dot inlays, flame top, and PG neck. They are really amazing guitars, and after playing one you really see why they cost what they do.
