My recent thoughts on the digitech expression factory OD/distortion modelers

I never bothered much with the distortion modelers on the expression factory until recently, because i sold my AMT E1, leaving me without metal tone capabilities. So i ran it through the effects loop of my C50 and checked them out. (They all sound like butt through the front of the amp.)

The TS-9 and DOD 250 modelers are very useable and accurate(judging by limited experience), but i don't really need to make use of them because of my bad monkey. the RAT sounds great too. I can't comment on its accuracy though. The big muff sounds very accurate and useable(if you like fuzz). The metal master and boss metal zone are just as horrible and utterly useless as the real ones(yay for accuracy). The DS-1 is very tight and crisp without too much grit or grain, which is exactly what i like for high gain stuff(used in video).

This room blows ass at high volume, but you get the idea.

Nice!
I've owned both the digitech hot rod which has their rat, ds-1, and fuzz models, and tone driver pedal which has the dod 250, the ts808 and ts9, so I'm pretty familiar with digitech's digital distortion sounds. My favs were the Ts-9 and ds-1 settings... those pedals were also cool because they had the morph knobs, and sometimes the cab sim came in handy.

My thing with digitech has been their digital pedals eat batteries worse than anything else I'v ever had.

The EX7 is 9vAC, but i've always kept the bad monkey plugged in anyway. So i don't know if it eats up batteries or not.

yeah the bad monkey wouldn't eat batteries as hard as the x series, the bad monkey is one of digitech's very few analogue pedals.

so I guess I just have a problem with some but not all digitech pedals eating batteries.

anyways nice tone in the clip btw
