My situation (A8 content)

I am in need of a single sized neck pickup that is going to match up with my particularly modified bridge humbucker. It's the now famous custom 8 with the allen screws under the wound strings. I've already tried to match it up with little 59er neck, and it works... but not to the same EQ settings.

My requirements are as follows: I need a neck pickup that will fit in a strat size single coil slot. I needs to have an EQ that balances with the modded C8. Currently to get a setting that works properly, I need to have the amp set with highs around 6, mids around 7, and bass around 4.

I've been looking into strat sized p-90s like the Rio Grande Dirty Harry jr or Dimarzio SDS-1 so I can screw swap (as strat sized pickups do not usually allow for mag swapping). I've also considered a duncan STK-S2 hot stack or a little screamin demon or even a 5-2. As you can see, I've got a lot of options to contend with. Whats worse is that I'm not finding a lot of demos out there. I mean if I was looking for clips of common pickups I'd be in hog heaven, but these lesser used ones dont get a lot of reviews. That's why I'm turning to you guys for help.

I've been reading that several users here have been trying out the screw mod on the C8, so I'm wondering what you guys are using to pair it with in the neck. By the way: I know I could just get an EQ pedal, but I prefer to have a simple a rig as possible.

Re: My situation (A8 content)

I pair the C8 with a Phat Cat Bridge Model, modded with a A5/A3 magnet. I am currently looking for a PC neck model and would like to use double A5 or A4/A5 - for little more output and maybe a tad clearer.

Re: My situation (A8 content)

Not a bad suggestion there, but I dont want to route out my guitar. It is routed for single coil, and so far I cannot find a p-90 style strat pickup with swappable magnets or one that comes with anything other than ceramic.

Nothing wrong per say with ceramic magnets, but my gut is telling me to keep this alnico If I can.

Re: My situation (A8 content)

On my most recent magnet order, one of my A8 bars arrived with no (or extremely weak) magnetism. Does anyone know if the small neodymium mags that Stew-Mac sells are strong enough to gauss it up?
