"My Third Eye is Lazy" --> rocking a wah, SG with split Pearly Gates jam solo :-)

Hey forum bros! ANY COMMENTS OR CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM IS MUCH APPRECIATED. I really appreciate all the insights and constructive criticism and encouragement, definitely my favorite forum and only forum I really post in so far, I think I am becoming a better musician because of it :beerchug: . I made a new song it is a guitar solo wah over a heavy bassline downtuned to c#, using my SG standard pearly gates pickup split (SEYMOUR DUNCAN PICKUP SOUNDS GREAT, glad to be a part of the club :biglaugh: ), into my oxford tech 21 and recabinet, and my Jerry Cantrell Wah. Here is my clip, rock on :) http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=11924718 (I deleted my old thread from yesterday with my song after thinking too much about the song and posted it again, thanks SD bros :) )

Rock on, dude! I loved it! That wah sounds damn good.

Certainly trippy!

Not exactly digging the mix though. The left-right sort of ping pong effect on the guitars can be quite distracting and the drums need work.

The overall is vibe of the song is really cool and the guitar tones are good.

Thanks brutha, I appreciate your great insights :beerchug:

Thanks much, it is pretty awesome to get feedback from a pro with great recordings/musicianship. I better focus on musicianship since my room needs dampening for mixing like this http://www.musiciansfriend.com/accessories/primacoustic-london-12a-room-kit-for-10x12-room cool soundcloud Ontolodox stuff, I followed you on soundcloud. I made some changes, I will eventually switch out the old soundclick song with the pingpong to my new clip on soundclick, here is the revised clip based on your comments, thank you:

You're too kind, Sir. Thanks for checking out my stuff.

And you are right about the musicianship, being able to deliver consistent performances plays a huge factor in how your recording will turn out, especially since you are self-producing.

Stick with near-field monitors (placed correctly) to minimize the impact of bad room acoustics. Or you can try mixing on a good pair of headphones.

As for your updated track, it definitely sounds better. It is clearer and much more focused. The ping pong effect can still used actually. Adding it into certain notes or sections can help the song move due to the contrast.

Re: "My Third Eye is Lazy" --> rocking a wah, SG with split Pearly Gates jam solo :-)

thanks brutha, I agree 110% with everything you said. I use nearfield KRK rokit powered 6 monitors. I use a krk10s to check bass levels, but I do not leave the subwoofer on because it really eats up my mids and midrange really needs to breathe. I will definitely do the pinpong effect on this song again soon, I see what you are saying, I will do it for a section. in retrospect I agree overdoing effects or underdoing them can really hinder things . thanks much :)

The second mix is definitely better. Nice over the top stuff. Reminds me of some things I used to fool around with way back.

thanks brutha :) much appreciated

I accidently replaced the original post's song with my new mix with a 30second segment of rotator/pingpong just now. I meant to upload a take 3 so people could follow the changes from my original mix, oopsies :)

rock on, thanks my friend, that is what I am goin' for, glad I hit the target, thanks :smokin:

ya it is awesome! somedude inspired me to get it, I see his tone quests and that he has discriminating taste and digs the same music genre that I do.

I like wahs on solos, and wah pedals in general do a ton for guitar solos for me in making it more organic/dynamic since I record using a pedal to simulate a real amp.

Amazing! Not so much Doom as Stoner imo. Thick, fat, fluid, and present. Maybe dig in a bit more like you mean it to define/ italicize/puntuate some of those pulls offs/ Hammer ons.
All in all, I give it a sold B+. Someone has been studying!
Not as thick a tone as the seminal /definitive 'Ozzy', but hey, thats something to shoot for, and I have no clue either how to achieve that high level.
All in all, a very heady, cerebral sound, with quite a dynamic and articulate attack.B+/A-

Thankz uncle Jerr (metalmaniac)! I am stoked to know that you listened to my stuff, FELLOW TEXAS FORUMITE :). you are right, I have been listening to my new spotify alot, and picked out an Austin Band to basically copy their style for my song. the austin band I am copying is called Tia Carrera, you can hear the similarities in my song to their style of play here:
