My Tung Sol 12ax7 just crapped out on me!

Had it in for about 6 months and it's been perfect and sounded beautiful in my 18 watter. I started losing some volume last night and then it went really ratty sounding. I really liked this tube and will get another one. It's funny, I've been running some JJ's for about 3 years now(in different amps) and I've never had the slightest hickup with them.

I've even had a JJ ECC803S die on me, so it's just a matter of bad luck.
I like the Tungsols, although they're a bit pricey. Maybe you should try a different one every time you buy. I've had good luck with GT12AX7C's, and they do a good job of tightening up the tone.

OEM Tungsol are extremely nice tonal preamp tubes.

JJ ECC803S come close and cost much less.

I have not tried GT12AX7C's yet.

I love Tung Sols, but I have gotten 1 completely dead from the factory and 1 that was too noisy to to use in a V 1on the VHT I used to have.

I have four words for you: buy from Lord Valve.

...or at least from someone who distrusts vendors (incl GT) enough to test before he ships.
