Mystery output jack. where's the ground? where's the hot lead?

ok, i can't remember which terminal is the ground, and which is the hot.
something makes me think that this jack might even be a stereo jack. but its worked in this guitar before. and it will once again... with the input of your knowledge and expertise

now i remember, this was the jack on the jackson that had the active boost knob with a 9 volt battery.
i don't use that any more. so i'm thinking the terminals as 9 o'clock, and 12 o'clock are the ground and hot, NOT respectively.
could someone suss that out ?
i guess its one or the other. its not like reversing the two is going to create a strangelet and devour the solar system

Do you have a multimeter? If so, try plugging a cable into the jack. Put one of the leads for the multimeter on the tip of the cable and then touch the other to one of the terminals on the jack. When you find the one that makes the multimeter sound, you've found the hot!

it's not stereo, it's a mono jack.

if it were stereo it'd have 3 lugs (tip, ring, sleeve).

follow the sleeve collar to see which lug it terminates at. That's the ground lug. The other one will be the tip (obviously)

Or you could just pick up a new mono jack for $1.79 from Radio Shack if the one near you is still open.

this is what i did. i plugged a cable into the jack. then turned on my amp to the high gain channel. two terminals reduce the ambient buzzing sound when i touch it. one terminal increases the buzzing when i touch it. so that one is the hot terminal? the other ones are grounds?

I posted the layout for the jack in my first post, no need to guess. Unless you don't know what ring, tip and sleeve means. For a mono guitar your ground is sleeve (the solder lug on the angled side) and hot is the one labeled tip. Ring is only used for TRS (stereo) cables or active pickups and other powered circuits.

I have/had one of those jacks. I wired it up after finally getting it right and never looked at it again. Ain't no way in hell I'm opening that can of worms just to tell you what lug is what :lol:

Ahem . . . $10. No waiting. Even cheaper if you search around. I snagged one for $3 at Harbor Freight.
