Owner of my local shop sent me home with a blonde Fender Supersonic Twin a week and a half ago. Having owned a Twin Reissue a couple of years ago, I was impressed with what little I heard at the store. So he picked-it up (thank God that HE lifted it instead of me!) and hauled it my my truck mumbling something about this being the only one in blonde that he'd seen in the store and wanting me to have it. He and the shop manager are always doing that to/for me -- just sending stuff home with me. I always have the option to bring it back if it doesn't light my fire... but they know what a gear-slut I am, so most of it stays. LOL!
Anyways... I'm REALLY starting to dig this heavy pig! Got that jangly, scooped Twin thing going perfectly. Plus, hit the fat switch for a bigger Bassman tone. The amp is worth the price of admission alone for those clean tones, but now I find myself starting to like the "burn" channel with a heavily modded TS9 in front and my LPs. No, it's not quite the level of crunch heaven as with my Ceriatone plexis. But nevertheless, I'm digging the amp and find myself comparing it to my old Bogner Shiva. I just ordered a nice road case for it (mostly for the wheels), because I have a country-rock gig on New Years and this rig will be perfect. Yeah, it's a bit "rotund"... and the Supersonic 22 1x12 combo seems like it'd be a lot more portable. But I think that this big boy 2x12 will seem a lot more like my Ceri halfstacks than any 1x12 ever will. I have been running the Twin in 20-watt low-power mode. But honestly, it's hard to tell the difference in volume and girth of tone. This amp has WAY more features than a regular Twin.
I think that she'll be staying. I'm sure that some here will laugh about me saying that (considering how many amps I've been through over the past couple of years). But the Ceris are still here, so there's a possibility that the Twin will stick around. Honestly, the only amp I've been jonesing for since I got the Ceris is the Freidman BE. It'll likely be a while before one of those makes its way up here, so I think that my amp stable will remain pretty... stable.
BTW... the shop owner just got a Tone King Royalist 15 head/cab in for himself the day that he sent this Twin home with me and WOW... what an awesome, responsive amp! VERY impressed. Enough to be adding the bigger Royalist 45 to the Freidman as amps that I'm still curious about.
