Marshall Haze 40
Marshall Haze 40
FuseG4 said - no joke my mom owns one. i've played it several times. it developed some issues with cutting out or dropping volume pretty quick but i don't think mom uses it enough to bother fixing it. Anyways it's got a pretty medium amount of crunch and it sounds kinda boxy, woofy, and a little harsh sometimes. kinda reminds me of the hot rod deluxe drive channel.
The clean channel is nice and can be pushed to ac/dc type breakup, i think it sounds pretty decent. it's a pretty loud amp and sounds best cranked above half.
the reverb is not my favorite.

Bought mine when it first came out and regretted getting the amp a short time later as the lunchbox amps started coming on the market.
After owning a Haze 40 for awhile, I have to agree with FuseG4. First off, I didn't care for the gain channel as it seemed darker to me. And the bright switch was useless as it 'brighted' both channels. So the clean was too bright and the gain channel was still dark. Found the clean channel very useable. It took my drive pedals nicely. There are some great sounds in this amp.
And yes, this amp is a one 12' with 40 watts and it is loud. Of course, it sounds better cranked. I remember that the amp has a basically an all analog signal path except for the digital effects, which I didn't use a too much but I will say that they are useable in a live situation if you don't need much control or variation. And my H20 sounded better in the loop than the onboard effects.
Yes this amp gets hot and it has cooling grills on the top. Never had to put a fan on mine.
Note I'd like to pass along:
First, this amp comes with a channel switching pedal. There is also a four switch pedal for this amp. I ended up getting the upgraded pedal and it was worth the extra expense to order. It should have a mod in it to prevent switching noise. There are also some mod available for this amp.
Next up is a caution. My amp had a cabinet made from freaking particle board! not plywood. I was so thrilled at being able to afford a real Marshall that I overlooked this minor detail.
Went to <

Also, I am pulling out a quote," There are a few things lacking in the design. Worst of all is the MDF cabinet. MDF is very dense and heavy, and does not give at all compared to plywood. The Haze I bought already had a cracked cab from shipping; it is still usable though. Plywood will flex a bit and is forgiving of dropping to a certain point. If you get a Haze, make sure you baby it as just the slightest drop might crack the box. "
Sold this fine looking amp by Marshall so I could get a more suitable amp for my needs.
Still have the Fulldrive2, the MXR 10 band, and the Visual Sound H20. The Fulldrive is a versatile T/S'er circuit. in CompCut mode, the FD is a strong boost. Everybody needs (or might need) a MXR 10 band. The 10 band seriously improved this amp. And lastly, the H20's Chorus side will work as a great doubler. Also bought a H20-V3 for use with my other amp.
And seriously, NAD is a great day. Please, I'm not trying to rain on your parade, I just want you to fully appreciate what you have bought - a forty watt tube amp with one twelve inch speaker and has some good tones!
