NAD - Marshall Valvestate 2000 AVT275 2x12 Stereo Combo

I really lucked out on this find. A bit of backstory. I have a Marshall AVT150 1x12 combo, but unfortunately it died due to a power surge a few months ago. I got some estimates and it would've been at least $150 to fix in parts and labor. On Sunday I was browsing through craigslist and came across this beauty for $200. Same set of features and channels as the AVT150 1x12, but with an extra speaker and a stereo effects loop. I had to have it, I missed my 150. I hopped on the opportunity and brought it home today. I've fallen in love all over again. Sure I could've spent an extra couple hundred on a decent 40W tube combo, but I am a hobbyist and not an active gigger. This gives me all the tones I need and then some. Like the title says, it's a 2x12 stereo combo, 75W per channel with 2 12" custom Celestions. It has 4 channels - acoustic sim, clean, OD1 and OD2. Onboard DFX, stereo effects loop, emulated line out (L&R), headphone jack, Footswitch was included. I've fallen in love all over again and discovering new tones even though I already had the 1x12. Here's the only pic I took since I couldn't turn it off until bed time. I am a happy camper with my latest acquisition.

A buddy of mine got an AVT head about eight or so years ago, and with a Gibby Les Paul he made a few recordings, and they sounded killer. I couldn't tell the difference between the AVT and an all tube amp, not in the sound. Never heard one in person, but that recording raised my eyebrows, that's for sure.

Those Marshalls sound killer that is the reason so many bands record with them. Congrats that is a find.

Oh it's great, I absolutely love it. I'm actually a bit sad that Marshall discontinued them. When my AVT150 died, it was hard finding either a 150 or 275, especially for the price I paid. Cosmetically it's not 100%, but who cares. The tone and versatility of what it can do is, and that's all that matters. I even hooked up my Ibanez acoustic-electric through the acoustic sim channel and was blown away, I didn't want to unplug it until my pops said to try my LP through it lol

I used to have a Mode Four. Kinda miss it, TBH. Those Marshall hybrids are pretty cool.

Congrats!

I own a Valvestate 8280 stereo amp and it sounds amazing. I thought about selling it a few times because I have too much gear but I can't bring myself to let it go for the price they are selling. Great amp.....enjoy!

Yeah, the only solid state in my opinion that came close was the Marshall MG100DFX, also discontinued. Marshall should get back into hybrids, they sound and feel damn good for the money. Even my buddy who is a tube whore loved it - tone, feel, features, everything. It's really a forgotten beast.

The AVT 50 head from 2000 is killer!

That said - those big 4 channel ones are a pretty awesome all in one package.

Tone snob factor says the older ones are better. I agree - t5he 2000's were hit or miss. But that thing sounds good, is uber-flexible, and a killer package!

Win!!!!

Oh absolute win. When I had my VS2000 AVT150 working, I replaced the tube with a GT 12AX7-R and it sounded mean, really opened it up and made it growl and raw. I plan on doing the same with this bad boy.

I just switched the original 12AX7 with a GT 12AX7-C. I SWEAR that really made my VS8240 come ALIVE.
BTW, when you engage the "chorus" on the 2x12 combos, they REALLY come alive. The sound is HUGE.

I just picked my 8240 up a week before (for $50), and I'm surprised how much I'm loving this little amp! It's great for rehearsal (very portable/light weight), and it's got TONE for days. And I'm thinking that I'll have no problems gigging with this puppy too. (Would LOVE to find a cheap VS8280 to get a little bit more headroom at gigging volumes)

CHEERS!

Congrats on a good deal, man. Every time I've played a VS or AVT, great tones are easy to dial in, and they feel good to play. Enjoy!
