NAD!!!! Mesa Content

I just got my self a used Mesa Boogie Dual Caliber DC-5, 50 watt head... they are very expensive in this side of the world, so I'm pretty much broke for this month, but so what? :approve:

2 channels and the classic mesa EQ, the clean it's got a push pull pot for the gain and on it's own can go from clean to rock no problems, the lead channel has a ton of gain... I have it on 7 right now and it's almost too much. Definetly on the honeymoon phase right now so a review would be worthless, but let me tell ya it is a killer honeymoon :cool2: :cool2: :cool2:

off course, pics or didn't happen, right?. Here's with my Tweaker on top

Happy new amp day! I'd love to pick one of those up just because I love Pepper Keenan's CoC tones.

Re: NAD!!!! Mesa Content

Great tone, much more organic and more full than the Mark V!

I am intrigued by the Dual Caliber and the older Nomad heads. I recall reading that they sat somewhere between the Rectifier line and the Mark line in the lead channels. I normally lean toward the Lead 2 Red, and Lead 2 Green on my Triaxis (Mark III/IV searing Boogie lead and Mark IV medium gain, respectively) but sometimes dig a boosted Recto sound.

What speakers are you going to be rocking?

Wow! Ni quiero pensar en pesos... felicitaciones! :D

How does it compare to the Tweaker? Yours has EL34, doesn't it?

Tweaker has more pick dynamics and more of a 70s vibe and tone to it. This one has very different tone, but the clean channel can get pristine clean with that mesa tone and can go as far as the tweaker goes in the gain department maybe a little more. Lead channel it's a beast, more gain than you'll ever need. I think even with a reaaaally low output pickup you could still do metal in this channel.

Re: NAD!!!! Mesa Content

One of my favorite Mesas; I have the DC-3. The Clean channel is taken from the Mark IV--the Lead Channel was taken from the original design of the Dual Recto.

Congrats, and enjoy!

Re: NAD!!!! Mesa Content

Weird, because I find Dual Rectifiers difficult to solo on but I find DC models, Marks, etc....easy to solo on.

Re: NAD!!!! Mesa Content

Eminence GB128, they re like green back clones with more power and balls, in the future I think I'll try v30s, just because Mesa's are famous for loving those

V30s seem to work well with the Lead 2 Red (Rectifier) circuit in my version 2 Triaxis. They sound really nasal with the Mark III/IV sounds alone though.

I use two cabs and blend between Celestion G12H-80 (similar to Classic Lead 80) and Vintage 30s. Being able to tweak the levels between the two cabinets is one of the advantages of having a stereo power amp. :D

I am pretty sure the next cab I get will be a Road King 2x12. I love the idea of blending a Vintage 30 with a Black Shadow 90.

Congratulations. I've got the same amp and I love it. The fx and volume mods are a must. Check out the Boogie forum for more info about the mods.

I'm having the volume mod done, the loop mod not right now since I'm not using delays nor any modulations and I'm broke, but yeah the boogie board has a LOT mods for this amps

Re: NAD!!!! Mesa Content

CONGRATZ on the new amp man !

. . . i know what you mean when you say Mesa is expensive.

I looked into a 1X12 ElecraDyne combo about 6 months ago, and the best (cash) price i could get was $3100.00 USD.

The fx loop mod only require soldering some wires, that's it. I'm aware that Mosta-Tone has published some of his mods but IMO they aren't necessary. Probably the reverb could be a bit better but for that I use the g-major in the loop.
One advice, always keep the bass very low in the lead channel otherwise it gets a bit fuzzy.
