Jupiter and sprague caps. The builder is Andy at used art sounds. He makes his own board to accommodate various mods. Belton tube sockets. All the good gear.

Thoroughly broken in Jensen p12n. Big magnet alnico gorgeousness.

rubies. The builder likes them. He reckons hes has some reliability issues with tungsols.

Rubies in the power section also. We discussed jjs (which i usually go for) vs the smaller bottle tungsols. I was after the lower headroom more vintage style of tube for this amp. He recommended these for the more vintage small bottle sound.

Eric Bellingham (local sydney amp legend) made the cab 20mm deeper than a regular cab to accomodate the bigger magnet bell covered speakers like a p12n or celestion gold. Any aussie or sydney guys who dont know Eric, look him up. He also sells his own original hand wired PTP amps. Ive got one of his JTM marshall style amps, and played a bunch of others, some of my friends have them too. Just fantastic gear and he custom builds all the cabs to make your dream amp in whatever color etc you want. Here is a link to another cab he did for me.

sexy, comfy and long lasting handle. Much better than the fender leather ones.

Andy added a negative feedback switch to tighten up the power section for times when i want a little more clean headroom and wider frequency response.
He also modified the "normal" channel to be more humbucker friendly. The bright channel is stock which is the main sound i was after. There is also a switch to cut down the gain and trim off a little low end for humbuckers at high volume or hotter guitars.
No point doing clips, the sound of a tweed deluxe is as old as rock and roll. If you have never plugged into a tweed deluxe, you owe it to yourself to try.
All in all. Its pretty rad and all hand built. Anyone who knows tweed deluxes knows what i'm talking about. I'ts real nice.

Re: NAD. Tweed Deluxe.

Congrats.

There might be different amps but I don't think there's a better one.

Re: NAD. Tweed Deluxe.

Great amp. I've had similar amps in the past, and wish I had one like yours.

I'm a fan of those gainy Ruby pre tubes. My Orange Tiny Terror is a great test bed for 12AX7's and EL-84's, and Ruby tubes won shootouts in that amp.

Re: NAD. Tweed Deluxe.

nice! glad you got one. ive been using my celtic 5e3 recently and it is such a joy to play

Re: NAD. Tweed Deluxe.

Yeah man they are fun. Can't wait to see how it goes in the clubs. what speaker are you using?

Re: NAD. Tweed Deluxe.

g12h-30 anniversary. as i think i mentioned a while ago, i loved the alnico's in there but with a stock size cab the speaker was too close to the tubes for my comfort so back to ceramic. i might prefer the alnico in there but i dont miss anything with the g12h. got a weber g12h-30 55hz recone (started life as an english v30) that i keep meaning to toss in there but it sounds so good its hard to find the motivation.

Re: NAD. Tweed Deluxe.

Mag Comp trannies AND Radial caps.
I love this guy.
He did a nice job. Definitely an amp you want to hand down to relatives, or donate to some young Guy/Gal with lots of motivation and promise when you get to "That Age".
I wonder where he got the chassis. It looks shorter but wider than your typical 5E3. The ones i have worked on always seemed like kind of a tight squeeze.
Perhaps it is just that he is using a "smarter" layout.
Even the Red and Green speaker wire looks pretty. :)
Who is this builder again.?

The guy who made the amp is Andy Mac at Used Art Sounds in Sydney. I knew he was going to use those trannies which is a big part of why i chose him to do the build. The jupiters he threw in because the build was a little behind schedule. Really cool guy.
The chassis is stock size but he made his own board to wire up to so thats why it looks roomier.
The pretty red and green speaker leads were done by the cab builder, Eric @ ericsguitars also in sydney

Re: NAD. Tweed Deluxe.

So, it was a deliberate decision then to keep the bright channel stock, and mod the other channel for buckers then, because of the inherent sound of the channels to begin with? I ask because I was discussing this with Trinity, and I wasn't sure if I'd want to mod one or both channels, and if one channel, which one.

Also, while I am a little bit familiar with at least some of your playing, I get the feeling that there's more than I've heard. Will you be looking to cover a variety of styles with the Tweed?

Re: NAD. Tweed Deluxe.

Yes I wanted that bright channel tone. There is really nothing in the world like it when paired with a tele.
I have had a little experience with deluxes before getting this one done and had the good fortune of borrowing a couple for some time to get my head around the sounds, so i knew what i was after with this one. The modifications were really just a bonus.
If i was in your shoes, i would just order the amp so it can do both channels as completely stock. Both are classic, versatile and useable tones. The jumpering of channels is a useable and cool option, as is the weird interaction between the volume controls when only one channel is being used, you can use the unused channel control to slightly attenuate the input of the other channel which comes in handy when using hotter pickups or humbuckers, or if you just want a cleaner, more jazzy feel.
If they can build it to do that then everything else they add will be a bonus. An nfb switch is a really good non-invasive thing to add. I had mine put in the external speaker jack because i never use multiple speakers due to the whole impedance mismatching thing that all fenders do. Just using one speaker out still allows me to plug in to a quad box if i feel the need and still get the correct load of 8 ohms. To be honest, i reckon the two speaker outs on all fender amps is kinda useless.
The other thing to think about though is that deluxes can get a buit loose, flabby and ragged when used with humbuckers. It is a sound, but you dont have to live with it if you dont want. Use the low input on the normal channel to add a "humbucker" switch. Having only three inputs still lets you jumper the channels. This can trim off a little low end and gain at the input which will tighten everything up considerably. You will still have plenty of saturation in your tone.
Anyways, yeah there are a ton of possibilities, but given that they are so easy to work on if you want to mod later, and given that the whole deluxe vibe is an unusual and highly interactive thing that takes a little while to get your head around, i recommend getting an amp that does all the things a stock deluxe does. If they add any mods, make sure that they are not at the expense of the core sounds.

Re: NAD. Tweed Deluxe.

adding negative feedback is a cool option, wonder what the humbucker mod is. does it effect both channels or just the normal channel?
