Nad!!!

I am now the proud owner of a Laney VC50!

For those who didn't see my other thread, I travelled to Brighton to purchase said amp from our forum bro richard parker.

This is my first valve amp, and I must say it sounds gorgeous! The clean channel sparkles, the drive channel growls, and it can really scream if you push it.

This baby is LOUD though! I haven't set the volume above 2 or 3, and its pushing the limits of acceptable bedroom levels. Can't wait to get her to some gigs and let her rip!!

so, in conclusion, I am a happy man!! :D

Re: Nad!!!

Well, you are now a tube snob. Welcome to the world of great tone. There isno going back now. You will be hooked for life. The next time you play with a SS amp, you wil say " This POS sucks!"

Congrats man! Enjoy.

Re: Nad!!!

It's definitely hard to suffer the indignation of playing on SS/modeling stuff once you've gone all-tube. My daily practice rig is a Vox Tonelab LE (has a preamp tube in it), into a Rocktron Velocity 300 power amp, into a 4X12 cab loaded with G12-75s. It's a pretty decent sounding setup. And I'd be perfectly happy with it, but since I spend so much time with all-tube amps I definitely feel like I'm slumming it a bit when I play the practice rig. Even though it's a giggable rig in its own right.

Re: Nad!!!

nice. modeling can be cool but if you really wanna have fun, it's nice to not have to fight your amp. Solid state amps just feel like my guitar is a train, it's stuck to the rails and can only go where the rails take it.
A decent tube amp feels like a cessna.
A good tube amp feels like you have wings. The only limit is how you handle them. You can sit back and focus on playing again.
Ahhh, the culmination of an amp search.
You'll go through this a few more times, probably. There's lots of different tube amps, many just have such a different feel. it's hard to get bored. Just don't get caught up in it too much.

Re: Nad!!!

congrats!! Ive never played a Laney.. I remember the first time I ever even saw one was the first time I saw RATT.. they had Laney stacks..

Re: Nad!!!

HAWT DAMN!!!!!

I just ran my Blues Driver into the clean channel...

I have achieved tonal ecstasy...

(ps I promise pics tomorrow!)

Re: Nad!!!

I thought you'd like the way your Blues Driver would sound through it. As much as an all valve amp is a great thing, a great clean valve channel is brilliant for putting pedals (s/s or otherwise) through. There's a lot to be said for using a great clean amp for your base sound and doing everything else with pedals. I'd forgotten how good the clean channel on the Laney is - like he best Twin you've ever heard. Mike - I'm really glad it's gone to a good home.

Re: Nad!!!

Cool score. I didn't know they make a 50w version.

I just read this post again and realised you might be referring to it in comparison to the VC30 and VC15. It bears little resemblance to those. It's basically a 50W, 2x12" combo version of the VH100R, running 5881 output valves instead of EL34 (but it has a bias switch allowing you to change if you want).

Re: Nad!!!

Congratulations, dude. I have a thing for Laneys in general...and I really wanna try one fo those.

I'm glad you're loving it. :beerchug:
