discuss. An Orange 100 watt tube amp with more gain than all the rest.

The all-new Orange Dual Dark Series is a range of high-end dual channel amps. Put simply, these amps showcase Orange Amplification at their most innovative. The new amps build on the brand’s reputation for creating the ultimate British guitar tone. Bringing a new dimension of sound that delivers potent combinations of tone and the highest levels of gain the brand has ever offered.

The models have a completely new voicing for Channel A, different to anything else in the Orange Amp range yet still true to their heritage. Channel B is has the voicing of the Dark Terror tone. Both channels can go from clean through to crunch at lower gain levels and offer four stages of gain!

Launching at NAMM 2014 are the 50 Watt and 100 Watt versions, both feature footswitchable attenuators and Orange’s signature low impedance effects loop design. The Dual Dark 50 has an output that can be switched to 50 or 25 Watts. Output on the Dual Dark 100 can be switched to 100, 70, 50 or 30 Watts.

Both amps come with standard EL34s fitted but other tetrode valves can be used when biased correctly by a technician. The Dual Dark amps have been built with state of the art components backed by Orange’s ever evolving design and deliver the biggest amount of gain available in the history of their amps.

Re: NAMM '14 - New Orange Dual Dark 100 Head Demo - Highest Gain Orange

If this had the Tiny channel and the Dark Terror channel, I'd be sold. Especially if they both had 3 band EQs. This definitely seems geared towards the modern metal side of things, and if that's the case, I'll pass. I will try to reserve judgement until I try one out, but it doesn't scream anything interesting at me as of right now.

Re: NAMM '14 - New Orange Dual Dark 100 Head Demo - Highest Gain Orange

I think it's loaded with cool features. The dark terror channel is basically the same as the TH30 dirt channel which is very cool and can mostlikely only sound better with el34s. Sounds like a cool agressive head to me. I'm also very curious about the voici. Of channel A. I don't think I'd trade my TV for one but I really wanna hear how it sounds.

Re: NAMM '14 - New Orange Dual Dark 100 Head Demo - Highest Gain Orange

I watched the video... definitely not a bad amp. Clearly quite metal-oriented, I kinda like it. From what I've heard so far I'd keep my TV and my Rocker but it's definitely a cool amp.

What's your opinion Everdrone?

Re: NAMM '14 - New Orange Dual Dark 100 Head Demo - Highest Gain Orange

well I dig all orange tube amps. they are a company that keeps getting bigger, and I am glad they are expanding their line in the direction of high gain tube amps. there are metal dudes that want this one! I cannot technically play speed/shred metal but if I could I would want it more than a dual recto or whatever else. I bet it can get more mellow tones too to a smaller extent. I bought my orange thudnerverb 50 new and only think about playing it really since it is a perfect fit for my sludgy downtuned heavy blues based rock but am always curious about other orange amps.

I like the power scaling, wish mine had that along with its attenuator. but still I would like a super awesome real attenuator over scaling...

I should have put the specs in the first post, so I just edited it :)

I didn't care for the sounds in that video, but then again it's a video.

Re: NAMM '14 - New Orange Dual Dark 100 Head Demo - Highest Gain Orange

This amp sound great! This demo is better, it's done with the designer Adrian doing the playing...obviously this is geared for metal mostly, but it does have more tones and this video shows it a bit better: http://www.sonicstate.com/amped/2014/01/24/namm-2014-orange-dual-dark-50-video-demo-classic-high-gain-with-a-modern-voice/

Also, would be kind of silly to make a DT channel with a 3 band EQ. That channel has never had a 3 band EQ, just the shape knob. The other channel is supposed to fulfill that need I guess, since they both can get as dirty according to the video.

cool video thanks

I was wondering about the bass amp ob1-k and it had footage too

it really is geared for metal

That video really made me like it a lot... No way I can manage to get another amp right now but I'm starting to really like that beast. The crunchier tones were quite good! Thanks for sharing this.

Re: NAMM '14 - New Orange Dual Dark 100 Head Demo - Highest Gain Orange

My pleasure! It's actually a shame the first demo posted was so one tracked. I guess Orange figures that they've already proven their ability for crunch, and just want to attract players who want more gain. Thus they focused on doing high gain only.

Re: NAMM '14 - New Orange Dual Dark 100 Head Demo - Highest Gain Orange

No problem with high gain here :) ...that's a killer sounding beast \m/

Yeah..the Andertons vid was better. Ive no use for the high gain stuff, but I thought the lower gain "classic crunch" sounds were quite good on the amp.

Re: NAMM '14 - New Orange Dual Dark 100 Head Demo - Highest Gain Orange

I love my Dark Terror, and that thing looks AWESOME!

Re: NAMM '14 - New Orange Dual Dark 100 Head Demo - Highest Gain Orange

I've been hoping they'd make a higher wattage DT, with another channel even? I'm gonna start saving up now.

Re: NAMM '14 - New Orange Dual Dark 100 Head Demo - Highest Gain Orange

Lol just edited my post, I guess I should have listened to the video. He said it would cost somewhere around the OR100. That thing is $2199 new on Sweetwater. Interestingly both channels seem capable of some insane distortion, albeit you can run either clean. Pretty cool amp.

Cool! 5 preamp tubes AND a sep tube for the loop and built in attenuator.. sounds interesting!! They should call the attenuator an " orange squeezer" :lmao:

Re: NAMM '14 - New Orange Dual Dark 100 Head Demo - Highest Gain Orange

Orange squuezer is a famous old compressor pedal.. cannot recall the manufacturer. Name probably still trademarked?

The Juicer would be a good one.
