Nananananananana Iceman! Getting the IC50s dialed in

The blue is an '80 & the black is a '79 Made about 14 months apart but there are a number of differences in body and neck construction.

The blue one looks to be a 3-piece body most likely mahogany. Stock except for the refin - Super 70's, stock guts, tuners, etc. I stripped the finish off the neck since it was chipping of. The refin looks nice but clearly they screwed up top and base coats. It feels like a much more modern guitar with the natural neck. I put on 2 coats of Watco Danish oil til I decide to refin the whole thing at some point. I think it looks really nice with the center flamed maple section. It plays and sounds great but I'd like to pot the neck pickup, it squeals under gain a bit too often.

The black one is a 6-piece body, 3 across and then pancaked top/bottom. I am pretty sure it is Japanese ash, you can see the grain where the finish has shrunk in. Guessing it was scraps from the Korina/Sen models they made. SD 59's - neck has an A8 mag and sounds a lot like the Super 70 but a bit fuller, not quite as grainy, CTS 500k pots, OD caps, Switchcraft jack and toggle. The tuners are modern Ibanez and a little smaller than the orignals but they work just as well. This guitar is a beast, hardly makes sense. I bought it in pieces, had to scavenge missing parts, some of the frets could use a little help and it was clearly played without much regard for it's survival lol but it sounds like a MF'er.

huh not sure what happened when I converted the pics, the blue is a solid purplish blue not blue black, I didn't catch that.

I tell you what, that blue/black would be a hell of a finish to have on a guitar!

I've always wanted a neck-thru iceman with an original edge trem..

LOL! At first from the title, I thought we were going to be Icemaned.. But... Wattaged delivered x2!! Very cool pair! interesting that the construction is so different. And even more interesting is that the laminated "scrap" body seems to sound better..

I tend to guess the blue one is laminated/pancaked but I can't tell as it is right now. I am likely to strip and refin it again so I'll know eventually. They're just really, really fun guitars to play.

> Securb when I was a 14-15 I bought an IC50 new in regal blue, it was a great guitar. Finally got around to replacing it and lol when it rains it pours. I bought the second one to build for a friend but he hemmed and hawed and I fell for it before he made up his mind. Now I have to make a 3rd for him or sell him one of these.
