Nazgul/Sentient, Pegasus/Sentient, or BK alnico Nailbomb set for my Schecter guitar?

Hello everyone!

I've been looking around for a while trying to decide what pickup set I can put into my Schecter C-1 40th Anniversary to use for my playing style. I have left the stock pickups in as I haven't been able to choose which pickup set I'll have to replace them. As of right now, I'm currently torn between the alnico Nailbomb set from Bare Knuckle Pickups, the Nazgul/Sentient set from SD, & the Pegasus/Sentient set from SD as well. (I'm referring to the 6-string sets as my guitar is 6-stringed.) And I just can't seem to decide between these choices! Between these 3 choices, I'd like to see what you guys recommend. Right now, I don't really play much as I've been trying to find employment, but the set I will buy will be for once I'm ready to start playing again & making covers on Youtube. As for my playing style, it will mostly be modern rock & modern metal along with some alternative styles as well. (Like pop-rock, industrial, heavy metal, etc.) My setup for the near future will include: a Peavey Bandit 112 amp, & the Boss GT-1 for effects.

As for the tones I'm wanting out of the pickups: I want it to be tight & aggressive, (like an active pickup, but active pickups aren't my thing normally) I want the mids to be searing/grinding while the lows are there but not in abundance & I want the highs to be singing & melodic. But in a nutshell, I want the set to have an excellent variety of clean & dirty tones with a balanced EQ if possible. If it's also good with overdriven tones, that would be awesome as well!

Here is the link to my guitar's specifications: http://www.schecterguitars.com/vault/listing/c-1-40th-anniversary-natural-pearl-detail

If anyone has any questions for me or might need more details, don't hesitate to ask me! I hope to hear back from some people with their recommendation/suggestions!

Welcome to the forum!

Well, I like the Pegasus/Sentient set, as you aren't purely playing metal. The Pegasus is a much more versatile pickup than the description makes you believe. It certainly is tight and aggressive, but has good cleans, too.

Hm. Do you know if it's good at overdriven tones or not? (For the Pegasus/Sentient set I mean.) BTW, have you tried the BK alnico set & if so, what do you have to say about them?

I have two schecter in my arsenal: a C-1 sls passive loaded with Jazz/FullShred (ceramic magnet in it) and a KM-6 with the limited run Black winter set made by SD for Keith Merrow. The guitar you own has almost the same specs of my Km-6. Taking into account my experience with that guitar, I'd suggest the black winter set. They are a great combo. High gain or low gain, splitted or full, clean or dirty. Fantastic underrated set. But if I have to choose between the three you posted, I'll go with pegasus/sentient.

Yeah, the Pegasus/Sentient sounds righteous with overdrive, distortion, or all-out meltdown. It just happens to sound good clean, too. No experience with the BK set.

Hm, with that being said, which should I choose between the Black Winter set & the Pegasus/Sentient set? (Recommendations are greatly appreciated as long as they suit my tastes!) :)

It's up to you. But I am so happy with my KM-6 and the Black Winter set. I guess you should not be disappointed.

In this video Keith Merrow plays its signature guitar loaded with all SD bridge pickups. In the second part there are isolated tracks of each pickup. So you can easily compare the pegasus with the black winter bridge in a guitar with almost the same specs of yours. Lets choose your personal taste, I can only talk about me and my experiences.

Well, that is a matter of EQ. Do you like or need mids? Then the Black Winter. If you want a more scooped sound, go with the Pegasus/Sentient.

Thank you everyone for the suggestions, tips & recommendations! :) For now, I'm torn between the BK alnico Nailbomb set & the SD Pegasus/Sentient set. BTW, I just thought of another question: does anyone know if the Pegasus/Sentient set does well if all tunings without sounding too loose, muddy or flimsy? (Just asking because the tunings I will use in the future will range from standard to possibly lower than Drop A.)

Re: Nazgul/Sentient, Pegasus/Sentient, or BK alnico Nailbomb set for my Schecter guit

I will say that I've never heard the Pegasus/Sentient set sound loose in any tuning. I mean, it might depend on amp, too, but it won't be the fault of the pickup.
