I ordered an Ampeg PF800 from MF. The thing looks like it was tossed. The guards on the front to protect the controls are broken. The comp knob snapped in half when turned it. The vol knob is snapped and the volume does not turn. It is a shame it sounds great I just can not change the volume or the sound. I already contacted MF. The hunt continues for another PF 800.

Was that actually sold as new?

No, I got it used for $300 which is a deal for a PF 800. I was looking at the PF 500s which are 300w with my 8-ohm cab. Typically those go for around $300 used. When this PF 800 which would have given me 500w at 8 ohms came up I jumped on it.

The new head showed up today. It is the PF500 and plenty loud enough. It sounds amazing and I have just scratched the surface of what is under the hood. It have a very SVT-like vibe to it, the tone is 100% Ampeg.

The thing that strikes me is a headphone jack on an 800 watt bass amp. I'd want to use that very gingerly. :p

How does it compare to other Ampegs?

It is very punchy, but that might be because of the cab. The cab is an old Ampeg V4 guitar cab, shallower than most bass cabs. I loaded it with 4x12 Celestion Pulse bass speakers. The Ampeg DNA is there. It sounds a lot like an SVT. Lots of growl and bite if needed but also plenty of clean headroom. It has all of the features you would need line out, the headp[hone jack.

What happened is Musician's FIEND dropped it while packing it.

Then they hoped FedEx, Brown, or USPS would do their usual "bang up" job and they could dodge the heat.

I am pretty much sure the shipper broke it. I do not see MF dropping it and then putting the broken pieces in the box.
