Hughes and Kettner Quantum 600 head.:eyecrazy: No pictures and I won't get to see it until the end of the month.

Never played it but it looks simple, powerful and built to take a beating. I've played a few of their guitar amps and was really impressed by the quality and tones. The high $ for the good stuff was a turn off though. Bass gear seems to be similar and gets tons of praise from the 3 people that have actually played the amps. Since no one has heard of them I got it for less than 1/4 what it went for new.

What about the all tube Mesa D-180 that I absolutely love?!

That amp is still the goodness when it comes to bass tones and for now will be promoted to "record only" amp. It's got tons of issues that really need to get fixed and I'm tired of playing gigs with a 29 year old amp full of problems. It will eventually be fixed, modded and used as my 2nd guitar amp.

Bass amps + microphones = a lovely thing. I don' t have a good di box (soon to get a radail j48) and the di out is one of the many problems with the mesa. I am actually looking forward to testing the H&K built in DI with some mics. I'll have to check the manual but the built in DI may go through the preamp.

The "tube growl" knob has me excited.

Re: NBAD!

looks cool.

whats the tube growl knob supposed to do? make it sound like an angry svt?

It controls the brightness of the LED behind the tube. duh.

Real answer:
From the manual it appears to be a variable compressor/slight gain adjustment that is an effort to simulate a tube amp's natural compression when pushed hard. It will be compared directly to my Mesa which does a wonderful job of the tube overdrive/compression.

Re: NBAD!

i wouldnt be surprised lol

does the tube get high volts or is it for eq?

Seems like the tube is used as an added "gain stage" for the "tube growl" feature...High volts is really doubtful but I am hopeful. The manual isn't all that descriptive.

Re: NBAD!

How much bass playing are you doing, Kevin?

Not as much as I'd like to. Our singer is a very solid groove drummer so when I'm in town we will do extended bass/drum jams until my forearms cramp up. Singer's brother is a powerhouse on keys and effects so these turn out to be quite fun.

I don't do any of the bass for The Fathom although my equipment is the best/always used.

I am currently recording a side project where I will most likely have to write and record all the bass parts. It's sad how tough it is to find a bass player who can write let alone lock with the drums on recordings. Don't get me started on "gig worthy" equipment.

Re: NBAD!

congratulations.

I also got a bass amp + 2x10 cab... pictures will come shortly. :D

What kind!? :approve:

Tons of great bass gear out there. I recently heard an Orange 4x10 isobaric (speakers mounted front to front in pairs and move like cylinders) and it was quite impressive. Won't move as much air or be as loud as a traditional 4x10 but will take as much power, lighter in weight and 1/2 the size. Look it up if you've never heard of this design before.

I'll have some pics of mine at the end of the month. Singer picked up the amp late night but won't tell me anything about it. Grrrrr!

I've got a Cerwin Vega folded horn 18" subwoofer that I'm dying to try at gigs. Sounds soooooo deep and smooth with bass guitar. 2000w RMS! Too bad it's the size of my car/stuck in my parent's garage.:banghead:
