Neat Hidden Gem Boss Pedal

I been playing around with an DN-2 Dyna Drive I got at Guitar Center. It's not the greatest pedal in the world, but it is very good for the cost. It's essentially an envelope filter controlled overdrive/distortion pedal. EQ wise it seems like they tried to combine the DS-1 and Super Overdrive. It sounds like a DS-1 without the midscoop and with a decent amount of bass roll-off. It also has a simple treble cut tone control.

The cool thing about it, is the circuit makes it respond to pickup dynamics to clean up really nice, but you don't lose output volume.

Kind of funny that it's called the "Dyna" Drive if it has a compressor. It's not really a compressor, but it acts pretty similar. Picture if you hand compressed a track on a DAW by roughly adjusting the volume of different passages to be similar volumes.

To me it's got a good sound, but it's definitely a sound I don't see as appealing to every genre.

Boss has made so many OD/Distortions. Only a few get massive acclaim, but there is one for everybody.
Agreed. The vast majority of them are great too, even if some are only very case-specific niche.

Love me an SD-1 and HM-2. My favorite Boss pedals. But the BD-2 is great too. I'd love to try an OD-1.

It's just their utility pedals like the NS-2 and the TU-3 that are so-so, IMO.

My Boss OD/Distortions:

SD1 (x3 - old, new, and a modded one)
DS-1
DF-2 (Super Distortion Feedbackker - eff you Larry!)
HM-2
MT-2 (x2, one on deck for modding)
MZ-2

And I use them all.

Surprisingly, No BD 2....

I don't own a BD-2 either. I would if I owned a clean amp.

I'd love to try a Waza SD-1. Or one of the black ones look mean too. Or the special edition Zakk Wylde ones with the bullseye graphic.

TBH, I don't own any boss pedals right now except a TU-3 which I want to sell now that I got a Polytune. I think I'm buying an SD-1 soon, though, but I'm not sure, because I want a Waza, but I already have some MXR pedals that are basically the same thing, LOL (Zakk Wylde/Classic Overdrive/GT-OD).

I love this thing on synth, the way it exaggerates distortion dynamics is really useful for making more aggressive playing noticeable.
