whats the actual difference between the neck and bridge pickups if they are the same model...more specifically what is the difference between a bridge hot rail and a neck hot rail... does it have to do with wires??? would it matter if you bought a bridge pickup but you intended to use it in the neck slot?

Yea ive never wired pickups myself, help would be appreciated...

Re: neck and bridge

Generally, the bridge position of a certain model will have more output than the neck versions. The voicing is also a bit different too.

It's done that way to balance the output between the two positions. Naturally there is less string movement by the bridge, so that's compensated with more output in the pickup. And the reverse goes for the neck position.

Using a bridge pup in the neck position isn't too uncommon (for certain pickup models), but you might find it to be too hot and your different positions will be unbalanced in terms of volume. It might also sound darker.
