Neck + bridge in parralel -- ssl-52/ssl-1 + hot for strat

Hello everybody,

I have a ssl-52 and I am wondering... will it be used at its full potential in the neck positon? Because its a "dark" position (compared to the brightness of the bridge position) and since it use alnico 2 for the high strings, will it be too dark on the neck position ?

For now in my strat I have a ssl-1 in the neck and it is bright enough and I love to pair it with the bridge pickup (Hot for strat) in parralel (with a push/pull mod).

My second question is : since the hot for strat bridge pickup is full of mids and the alnico 2 of the ssl-52 on the high strings have less treble and more mids, if I activate them (bridge + neck) in parralel will it be too much on the mids or too dark than with the ssl-1 ?

Am I badtripping for nothing ? Will it actually be a good mix or it will be too similar to my current setting (ssl1 + hot for strat in parralel) ?

Thank you

I had the ssl52 in the neck of my strat and it was not dark at all. It is not as bright as the ssl1 but it is still a very good neck pickup.

i agree the 5/2 can sound good in the neck. what dont you like about the ssl1 that you are trying to fix?

There is nothing wrong with the ssl-1, I am wondering wich is the better tone mix for when I'll put the neck and bridge in parralel.
The midrange of the hot strat in the bridge would mix better with the clarity and treble of the ssl-1 or the more sweet and mid focused high string of the ssl-52 ?
Maybe I'm overthinking this and there is not really much differences. That's why I need guidance and help

The SSL-52 is a magnificent neck pickup. I like it a lot better than the SSL-1 (or 2). I don't think the SSL-52 and the Hot for Strat in the bridge in parallel would be dark at all.
