Neck Humbucker Decision... read!

Hey guys,

I have a Custom Custom in my Ibanez, which is basswood. But I am having trouble deciding on a neck pickup to match it with. Right now the stock pup is in there and I need an upgrade. In general, I really like the Jazz as a neck hum, but I have concerns about how it would sound partnered with the Custom Custom in the bridge. So that asks the question, what neck humbucker should I get to go with my Custom Custom? I am looking forward to hearing everyone's opinions! I play rock and heavy rock through a 5150ii. I love a good clean sound, and a coil tapped clean sound, which I will be doing with the neck pup. My signal chain is pretty much unadulterated.

Man I don't get it. Why is everyone so concerned about how the neck pickup matches with the bridge pickup? Is it for volume related purposes??

Anyway, what do you want to achieve with your neck pickup sound? I had a JB in the neck in my basswood LTD thru my 5150 II that was amazing for solos, but couldn't do much else.

I have similar problem - I have 95er Fuji Gen Orville Les Paul std.
the stock pups were nothing special so I put my old Sh159/A5 in the bridge.
Wow just perfect but the neck ...? I have a neck 59 singleCond. too.
this is now in Duesenberg Starplayer and the P90 Domino which was swapped by that 59N is temporarely in the Orville LP. Tell you the P90 is such clear and warm. When go for a HB in Neck which one to go?

It's for volume matching, but more importantly to alot of players, it's about the sound with both pickups on. Just for example, many people gripe about Gibson's 498t and 490r not belonging in the same guitar. The bridge is too bright, the neck is too dark, etc... but the sound with both pickups on is fantastic.

Many super strat players have their guitars set up to allow the neck and bridge to be on at the same time too. It's all about versatility.

i see what you're saying. but like the person above me stated, sometimes pickups just don't sound like they belong on the same guitar. hard to go wrong when you have a JB in the bridge but the custom custom is a strange beast. i want my guitar to sound like one guitar, in general, but still acheive different sounds obviously. so thats why i ask the smart people here!

take a jazz neck. put an A2 mag in it. put hex-head pole-pieces in it. it'll be a monster hard rock/shred pickup that cleans up and splits really well. i have that setup in one of my jacksons.

PGn is an A2 magnet that's why it sound good matched with a CC.

PGn or Alnico 2 pro neck. There's really no need to start magnet swapping when Duncan makes several perfect off the shelf A2 pickups that would go well with the CC.

Get a PGn and be done with it. I've heard from people on here (Lew) that it's duncan's best paf split. Even if it wasn't though, I'd still go with it. Awesome in the neck.
