neck mount on acoustic

I was playing a john lennon acoustic with the magnetic pickup the other day and I was wondering if I could do the same thing with a neck mounted pickup like the one below.

just put a stewmac straplock jack on the rear and run the wire through the sound hole. and some electric strings.

What do you guys think? would something like this work? :feedback:

Re: neck mount on acoustic

That should work. You can also mount a soundhole pickup and run the plug to the rear sound hole. I personally don't like drilling holes in my acoustic guitar. The complaint I have is that magnetic pickups don't get all of the over tones and piezos get too much. I like to combine the pickup sound with a good condensor mike when recording. No you should not use electric strings, the acoustic steel strings sound better. The John Lennon AJ-160 has 1 volume and a tone. You may need this to control the pickup or some sort of Fishman tone/controller. I found that the lower end Epiphones without volume and tone controls were really messy to control with an acoustic amp.
