Neck Pickup Help

Hey everyone,
This is my first post. I am having a guitar built and I need some help choosing a neck pickup. It has a black limba (korina) body, maple top, maple neck, rosewood fingerboard. It is a bolt on neck, but this particular bolt design that my luthier has designed behaves more like a set neck. Don't know how he does it, but he does. I have already chosen a Duncan Distortion in the bridge. I play metal mostly, but my role in my band requires a pristine clean tone. I also plan for this to be my workhorse guitar for the rest of my life, i don't need a ridiculously high output humbucker. So i need a neck pickup that sounds fantastic clean, and very clear and articulate in a solo setting. I don't want booming lows, or a harsh high end. I am thinking either a jazz or a 59'. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Neck Pickup Help

The Jazz should give you a clean, hi-fi sound that's a little cold but very clear and articulate under high gain. It's not warm and cozy like a PAF or anything like that. I think of it as the metal guitarist's clean sound for a song intro -- not pretty enough to distract you from the thrashing you're about to administer when the drums kick in and you switch to the crunch channel and the DD.

The Full Shred neck is tight, clear and sings. It sounds good clean and it is a great shredder in the neck position without sounding muddy or boomy.

+1. Definitely worth checking out. I pair it up with a Custom in an alder-bodied Dinky, and it kills.

I still like to lower the neck side poles and raise the bridge side poles to get some single coil style spank out of it. The FS neck is the only pickup that I have tried that I can get consistent pinch harmonics out of.

Hmm, Full Shred. Interesting. What would the differences in sound be between the jazz and the full shred?
