Neck Pickup madness

I play a Gibson SG with a Sh-13 in the bridge. The neck pick-up i'm using right now is the standard one that came with my SG, but its really beat up and sounds like hell; and im looking for a Nice clean, warm sounding pick-up to replace it with. I'm looking for something thats got a lot of definition and clarity; almost like Yngwie neck pick-up sound. Any help at all would be great, guys. Thanks a lot.

warm with lots of definiton and clarity?

im not 100% sure but i think a Jazz might be good
either that or a full shred :D

Re: Neck Pickup madness

Jazz is a very clear and articulate pick up, but I heard it doesn't do the warmth thing very well. I'm pretty sure the A2p has everything you need though, a Seth Lover would also be an excellent choice for that warm smooth tone.

Thanks for all the help, guys!

So I'm looking at a Full shred, a Seth or a Jazz?
Which one of those bad boys would give me That Warm Yngwie Tone and
not get all muddy with a lot of gain?

You do realize that Yngwie uses single coil size pickups (Dimarzio humbucking stacks...HS-"something or other" :smack: ) and that no full sized humbucker will ever sound like that...right?

OK then...the Jazz has more extended highs than the Seth...more harmonics and zing way, way up on top.

The Jazz is slightly deeper and tighter in the bass than the Seth.

The Seth has slightly less bass and less sparkle to the highs but more mids than the Jazz.

Full Shred is just not my cup of tea...couldn't tell you about that one.

Clean and warm....get a Seth Lover. It's what I use.

Clear with definition...the Jazz might be better.

Neither sounds a thing like Yngwie tho!

I know Yngiwe uses the Dimarzo HS-3 in the bridge and the YJM in the middle and Neck; I know that I will never be able to get that singlecoil sound from a humbucker, but I want to get as close to it as possible with a humbucker. The tone I'm really looking for is a very clear tone when used with a lot of distortion; and something that retains definition when playing on the lower strings.

clarity wise, how does the aph compare to a seth

The APH is more balanced across the board, at least to my ears, while the Seth has a nice hollow honk to it that is very endearing. As far as clarity goes, the APH gets the nod. The mids are a bit more transparent and the lows are a tough, just a touch, cleaner. I think that you can't go wrong with either none. :burnout:

I noticed in another thread you said you have 2 gibson sgs(sweet, by the way)that you have the same bridge pickup. Just pick 2 different or same neck buckers that sound the most appetizing to you and put either one in the guitar that compliments its tonal characteristics.

I would pick two that sound good to me, but I dont know what pickup will give me the sound I want; I searched for 3 years before I finally got the bridge pickup that I have now. I'm just trying to find out what pickup to get before I shell out the cash. I dont want to get a pickup and have to change it in a week because its not working out for me.

Re: Neck Pickup madness

fr clarity and definitioin, the full hred does actually seem like a good choice.

and despite the name, it's not a super duper high output shred monster. it has nice clean tones and still retains that clarity under gain.

Re: Neck Pickup madness

I was thinking full shred, too.
What I really need is something thats nice and clear on those lower strings and stays true to my picking dynamics as well.
