Neck problems(i think)

Hello, I have my black thunderbird IV that i bought like...a month ago?
I did some drawing, and clearcoated it and so on...But now, i tried to play it, and set up the action and stuff like that.
But then, I noticed that the space under the fretboard where the bolt on neck meets the body, is not right... uploadfromtaptalk1408375256343.jpg as you hopefully can see on the picture, the fretboard has a small angle as the right side(on the pic) of the fretboard is a little higher than the left.
The right side of the neck seems then to be a little bit higher than the left one... uploadfromtaptalk1408375517989.jpg the left side... uploadfromtaptalk1408375612394.jpg and the right side...
I am not sure what i should do about that and what caused this...when i then play the lower (A,D and G strings) frets, strings starts to buzz unless i have ridiculously high action wich makes it uncomfortable for me to play... I am thinking about going to local music store to get some help. But with all modifications i have done to it I am not sure if they can help...any help to get here or is a new neck required? Hopefully other more experienced players than me have had this problem before and knows what to do...

Re: Neck problems(i think)

The likeliest explanation is that the neck is not properly seated in the pocket. Just tightening the screws in the wrong way can cause this.

If there had previously been a shim in the neck pocket, it is possible that it shifted when you loosened the neck or is now completely absent. It is also possible that you got some clear coat in the neck pocket and it is displacing the neck sufficiently to create problems.

The solution is to slacken off the strings, slacken off the neck screws and then carefully do them up again. Get all four close to tight before finishing them all off fully.

Well, the neck seems to sit tight in the pocket, will tre to loosen the screws and redo them

Re: Neck problems(i think)

I just tried to rescrew the neck, everything seems to be straight, but at the end it comes out like that

Did you take the neck completely off again to check that there is no debris, finish drips, shifted shim, etc. in the pocket? If not, remove the neck completely to make sure the pocket is clean and/or shims are in the proper place.

It kinda looks like there is something in there that shouldn't be, or wasn't there in the first place.

If you take the screws out, and seat the neck into the pocket without them, does it look right? You may have to clamp the neck in place to look at this (use clamping cauls!).

Is is possible that the neck was originally like this, but you changed something else before you noticed a problem? Example: you tightened the truss rod too much with the strings off, and now your neck has backbow, causing your strings to buzz against the frets?

Good luck! Let us know if you fix it.

Re: Neck problems(i think)

Thank you! I just checked the pocket and there was this small piece of an old neck of an les paul i cruched the neck off to make a table...so i took it out and now it looks right...now back to action set-up...
