Neck PU to go with the BL L500XL?

Does S.Duncan or anyone else make a good match for the Bill Lawrence L500XL bridge PU for the neck position in a 24 fret 2hum ash body/floyd rose guitar? I have a Bill Lawrence USA humbucker(7.5Kohm) in the neck slot now, but its too bright/sterile. A '59b(8.5Kohm) in a black dual blade design would be ideal. I figured Duncan would make one to match the SH13 Dimebucker, but I dont one listed on the website. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

There is a L-500 which is lower output than the L-500XL. Otherwise a full shred neck wouldn't be bad.

Do you know if the L-500 has an alnico5 magnet? I cant seem to find any info on the BL website.

I re-read your first post you might already have L-500 in the neck, does it have rails? Did the pickups come stock on that model of guitar?

Yes, it has rails. I think this Robin Medely originally came with Rio Grandes. When I got it, it had this "Bill Lawerence USA" pickup in the neck and I added the Bill and Becky Lawrence L500XL (which is perfect for this guitar).

Have you looked on the bottom to see what model it says? 7K sounds right for the L-500. You might like the Bill & Becky product more since they can vary the wind for your tastes.

The B&B certainly does. I have one that I ordered new a few months ago and it's definitely A5.

If you are using a L-500L in the bridge, you use a L-500R or a L-500C in the neck position. Being a 24 fret guitar, a 59 bridge or a Duncan Demon would be a great choice! I hear a Demon with an A2 magnet is great with a 24 fret axe.

The ones over the last few years are A5's and IIRC, so where the early ones. Anything in the middle was ceramic. According to Bill and Becky, the change of magnet does not alter the tone. BTW, when they changed back to the A5's, I think they did change the wind specs a bit.

Re: Neck PU to go with the BL L500XL?

Changing A5 to Ceramic "does not alter the tone"?

Now I'm tempted to rip it open and mess with it. Nothing better than a challenge :)

In their defense, switching between A5 and ceramic in Duncan's Custom coils sounds very, very similar as long as you play certain things, fingerpicking in particular. But more dynamic styles bring differences.

Does anyone have a link to the specs on the L-500R or L-500C B&B pickups? Their website is impossible to navigate!

According to Becky it does not change the tone. In all fairness, they changed the wind too IIRC. Take that into account.

I dont know the new specs (past 2 or so years) but, the old specs had the C at around 5.00K in series. I think the R was around PAF resistance???

Re: Neck PU to go with the BL L500XL?

Anyone try either the L-500c or L-500r for jazz? Which worked out better?
