does anyone know the exact distance the neck pickup needs to be routed for in a 24 fret neck vs a 22 fret neck ? like how much further down the body it is ? thanks :-D!

Re: Neck PUP in 24 fret guitar

I'm not sure of the exact difference, but I know it depends on the scale. On a 22 fret guitar, the neck pickup is mounted directly where the 24th fret would be, which is also one of the harmonics. A lot of people prefer a 24 fret guitar for that reason, to get the neck pickup away from the harmonic, not that they use the extra 2 frets. Whatever your reason for wanting 24 frets, I think it's cool that you're trying to build it yourself. And yeah, there's a few people on here that know the number off the top of their head.

the 24 fret thing is kinda just to get it away from the norm..ive only attempted 1 guitar before and lets say my results were...quite a bit less than playable :) but...its my hobby ..i kinda compare it to rockets..you know sometimes your parachute doesnt open or maybe it just comes off..but it was still fun and the excitement is still there even if things go wrong :)

Re: Neck PUP in 24 fret guitar

2 frets closer.

1. It depends on the scale length

2. There is no "standard", every manufacturer does it minimally differently. Most keep it pretty close to the neck, some even purposely "distance" it from the fretboard or even angle it ;)
