Neck pup to match with Custom bridge.

I'm looking for a neck pup to match with a custom bridge in a wolfgang. I am looking for something besides a 59 or a pg. I like the pg I have in the neck of one of my wolfs but I want something different that will match up with the custom.

Seth? APH-1?

I'm actually looking at some APH-1Bs on ebay. Don't know if I'll like the bridge model in the neck, but it's something to try, I'll let you know.

Anyone who's tried the Custom with an Alnico 2 Pro want to chime in?

Yeah, I was thinking a APH-1 or mabye a jazz but just want to make sure it will match up well with the curstom. Since I can't adjust the pup height I need them to be balanced in volume. I think a APH-1 would be perfect but might be a big drop in volume when switched. And that the Jazz might be to bright when the amp is set up for a good sound with the custom.

Some people think the Jazz and aph-1 are just a magnet swap away from each other.:)

Re: Neck pup to match with Custom bridge.

hmm, how are they output wise? I think I would like the aph-1 for a singing neck pup. Does it have enough output so there isnt a big difference in volume when switching?

Hmm, I was thinking mabye I should go with a pgb and aph1 in one wolf and a pgn and custom in the other. What do you think my purveyors of tone?

Re: Neck pup to match with Custom bridge.

why can't you adjust pickup height
even if mounted direct to body
do what is done with p-90s
put foam under the pickup and use the screws to lower the pickup

I guess I could do that with the neck but the bridge is pretty much stuck where it is. And since its the neck I'm worried about that is a possiblity but I would rather have them balanced when mounted flush with the wood.

It really depends on the settings. Sometimes you can have a setting where both sound great, sometimes not. Having said that, mixing the bridge custom with the neck A2 Pro always sounds good. It doesn't have that weak tone that you have on many guitars when you mix bridge and neck humbuckers together. Instead, they seem to complement eachother, with the custom adding in some highs and the a2p adding a bit of that liquid neck tone.

Sounds like the aph-1 will do the trick. Now to get one in zebra and a couple of push pull pots and I will be set. Thanks for the help everyone.

Re: Neck pup to match with Custom bridge.

I have tried a 59 on a few occasions but there was always something about it that just didn't do it for me. I cant remember if it was the bass or what but it was close but no cigar. I really like the PGn and I'm guessing that the aph-1 will be some more of that singing tone I like. I think the 59 would turn the bass to mush in a basswood guitar.
