Will go in the neck of my Tele Am Std, with a Fender Broadcaster in the Bridge, playing mostly classic rock through a 5e3 or Princeton.

Thoughts?

I was never a fan of P90s until I tried an Antiquity, so....

People rave about those Antiquites. If you have to make a choice, that's what you should go with.

Well, sounds like a pretty solid endorsement. The antiquity also has the advantage that I would likely be able to use it for jazz so I think that will be it.

i have several Antiquities and Vintage SD P90 pickups.........go with the Antiquities.

Now. How do I mount it? It’s the first time I’m putting P90s in a guitar that didn’t have any.

I need to order a pickguard anyway so I’m open to anything. I think the proper routing is there so I got that going for me.

Two main approaches:
1) Just drill the body
2) Batwing P90 and mount on pickguard - this is tempting because I obviously change pickups very often so not touching the body is a plus

P90's in the soapbar version have 2 screw holes within the body of the pickup. So both rout and pickguard are the dimension of the pickup itself and the pickup mounts via wood screws with foam or springs underneath.

Thanks, yes that would be the normal approach. But I believe that for some thin bodies like some SGs I’ve seen soap bars mounted on the pickguard with something like an inverted dog ear baseplate. If that’s uncommon or I made it up in my head I’ll just put it the Normal way :)

The body depth is not really a factor, you can do either way for any body which has a pickguard surrounding the pickup in its entirety. Either way you still need to have the body routed to the same depth as the pickup still needs to be able to sit almost flush with the guard whether wood or pickguard mounted.

That is the way the P90's are mounted on my SG Classic, it makes it somewhat difficult to change out pickups, unless the new pickups could be ordered with the reversed baseplate. Little threaded clips go on the Dog Ear legs to thread the adjusting screws into. Someone pointed out in a thread that this mounting method has been done in the past on other Gibson P90 guitars with the pickups mounted in a pickguard.
