Neck: Stk-s4b vs stk-s7

Hi I'm looking for a SC sized to match my pearly gates Bridge and I have tried stk-s4n and stk-s7. I like the characteristics of s4n but it's output is a little lower to match the pearly gates. The S7 matches in output but lacks the treble in s4n.

Will the stk-s4b be the perfect solution for this case?
Has anyone tried it on the neck position?

Thanks in advance!

I think the S4 will work just fine. I use mine with a 59/Custom Hybrid, and it matches. It is a great sound, too.

STK-S4b is likely to be darker than the STK-S4n, but probably brighter and a bit lower output than the -S7. -S4b might be the best compromise of the 3, though. You will probably have to try it to be sure. Might be that the tone from the STK-S4n matters most and you have to deal with the disparity. Or find another solution. Separate volume controls for the pickups?

Getting disparate pickups that have the tones you want AND work together in a guitar can be a pain. Often have to choose between tone being perfect, or volume being perfect. Which option works better depends on your needs, and how it behaves with your amp. Some people like a bit of a volume change, if they primarily use the bridge for leads and neck for cleaner tones. Or vice versa, there are people who play rhythm on the bridge and want fat leads from the neck. Depends on how you approach the instrument.

I have a STK-S4B matched with a Custom 5 in a guitar and the S4B imo sounds basically just like the S4N I have in another guitar, but a little more output. Really works well in the neck with a humbucker in the bridge to me.

The S4 I have with my 59/Custom Hybrid is a neck pickup.

Re: Neck: Stk-s4b vs stk-s7

My approach is to choose for their tone but in the same general output range. Then I adjust heights to get to outputs balanced where I want it. This will affect the tone slightly but in a live performance nobody will ever notice or even care. If you are recording and the tone you want is primary, the volume disparity can be adjusted by the engineer.

i can see the s4b sounding good with a humbucker in the bridge. i used it with the s9b and it was ok but i wanted a bit more high end for clean stuff.

Re: Neck: Stk-s4b vs stk-s7

yes, it is a darker sounding pup with a little more mids, bottom, and output compared to the s4n

Re: Neck: Stk-s4b vs stk-s7

I have nevera tried the STK-S4b but I have a STK-S6 un the neck of my HSS Strat, bridge Is am OEM versión oficial Dimarzio PAF Pro, they match really well, 250k pots, it sounds straty enough to me.

Re: Neck: Stk-s4b vs stk-s7

I finally bought the STK-S4b. I was a little disappointed with the DC resistance. It is measured at 9.19k ohms.

Re: Neck: Stk-s4b vs stk-s7

resistance doesnt = output, mine is something like that too. what were you expecting it to be?

Install it asap and try it asap and if you don't really like it you may be able to exercise the 21 day exchange policy if you live in USA. Another stacked single coil I would also try (I have not been able to use it myself) would be the parallel axis stacked single coil, it seems to match really well with humbuckers, check James Ryan videos.
