Title says it all. which one is the hardest to find the right one for? I find the bridgepickup the most difficult most of the times, until I discoverd hybrids. since then it's a hit-hit-hit-hit deal for me, no more misses. same for neckpickups. what about you?

i think it depends on the guitar more than anything

It also depends on the method of choosing.

It is easy enough to suppose that a particular pickup ought to sound a certain way in a given guitar. Sometimes, a guess works out well. At other times, the first attempt is wrong but, with some experience, it is possible to use the shortcomings of the first attempt to estimate which other pickup would give the desired result.

For me, neck PU's are easier since most of mine are PAF's. I'm just looking for treble and clarity.

Bridges take more work. There's many more choices and the bar is higher for what works. I need a PU to give me things that are in short supply in the bridge slot, like warmth & mids. They're crucial to my sound. That means in most cases I'm also using some combination of warmer magnets and pots, so there's usually some dialing-in involved.

Generally, I have a hard time selecting the bridge I like the most, and the neck I hate the least. :)

Im gonna say neck pickup. For me its not that easy to find a good, warm but not muddy neck pickup.

Depends but for the past couple years it's been the neck.

If I could go by wood it's neck in mahogany and bridge in alder/basswood. The rest is generally gravy.

I pretty much only use PAFish neck pups, so i can dial them in usually with a simple mag swap regardless of the guitar. Bridge pups are harder to find that work with a particular guitar.

Neck humbucker by far the hardest. I have yet to find one I'm truly satisfied with, and I've tried a ton of them.

For me, it's the bridge.
The neck seems to be easier, since I tend to roll off the tone control for the neck, anyway.

The bridge is usually the challenge for me. If it's tight enough to give the right chunk for power chords & palm muting, then the single-note stuff gets too razor searing in the hi-end. The models that have great warm, flowing lead lines often sound like mush for the percussive stuff. When I do finally get one that does both well enough with distortion, it's a cr@p clean pickup. This is why I own so many danged guitars! Okay, well, it's one of the excuses I use.
