Need a neck for my Superstrat

I need to get a neck for this guitar. The one I originally ordered has gone onto another project - it was an all-maple neck - I think this guitar might 'look' better with a rosewood or ebony fretboard... but I can't decide.

My goal: '90s hard rock and metal tones. I tend to like bright guitars with a crisp attack (generally I go for ash and maple), but I want this guitar to be a little warmer - though not so dark it has no bite at all. The pickup is a SD Custom.

I'm a happy Warmoth customer, so not asking for suggestions who to order the neck through. And I really don't want to be spending a ton of money on ultra-exotic woods - my thoughts are that the Black Korina grain is interesting enough - if I pair it with something too exotic or with too busy a grain/pattern it might be aesthetic overkill?

Otherwise, i'm completely open (and hoping) for wood combo suggestions and headstock shapes. What do you think would look/sound the best?

Re: Need a neck for my Superstrat

Maple/Ebony would be my first choice.

It would look clean AND sound great!

Keep that crisp attack you like with good balance and feel.

Re: Need a neck for my Superstrat

roasted maple from warmoth. Same great maple qualities but with a slightly darked shade. Also since its roasted you don't need to have it finished which helps save a few $$.

Re: Need a neck for my Superstrat

Can you get a full ebony neck from warmoth? That would look good on that one. One of the other darker woods they offer? Talking the whole neck not just fretboard

Re: Need a neck for my Superstrat

Ya id definitely do quarter sawn maple with ebony board

Do what I did and get a Quartersawn Roasted Maple neck ;) I think Rosewood, Dark Rosewood, Ebony, and Black Ebony would all be good choices...maybe even a Wenge freboard? :)

Awesome looking guitar btw!

2) Maple on Maple
3) Rosewood on Maple

Thanks for the replies guys.

Having photoshopped a darker board, i'm now more confused than ever - I thought hands-down it would look better, but i'm not completely convinced anymore... maybe i'll have to toss a coin, lol.

I know what you mean

its the body
It just lends itself to almost any board
with the exception of the garish colored boards (.ie Lime Green, etc)

Re: Need a neck for my Superstrat

I would vote for maple / Macassar ebony (or Pao Ferro) since you're staying with both tend toward the brighter end of the spectrum and i think the feeling is great on either of them.

Maple / Pao Ferro would suit and be a very good fit in terms of tone and aesthetics.
The fretboard needs to show some "character" to match that beautiful body.

Re: Need a neck for my Superstrat

roasted maple will give you that sound and looks a little darker than regular maple. It will get even darker with some oil too.
