Need a New Acoustic Guitar!

Hello everyone! I'm heading off to college next year and I'm starting to realize I can't take any of my guitar gear! So, I'm going to buy myself a new acoustic to take along with me to school. Right now, I have a Martin acoustic with a spruce top and mahogany sides that I love, but it doesn't have a cutaway, so it makes playing on the top frets damn near impossible. I'm looking for a nice, versatile acoustic guitar. I'm used to dreadnought style acoustics, but any recommendations are open! I have about 1500 bucks to spend. Thanks guys!

They actually are not all "Solid Wood" they have a carbon fiber frame, it increases sustain and makes them very durable. I like them alot.

expensive guitar = bad around drunken college kids and janitor types

i would say that when buying an acoustic guitar, you just have to go to a store with a wad of cash and buy the one you like the most. pay no atention to brand either.

I recommend you try out Dean acoustics. Mine is really nicely built and is one of the nicest sounding acoustics i've played (up there with far more expensive martins and taylors which ive tried). Im not sure what Deans are like up in the $1500 range but i paid £250 2nd hand for mine and it was £550 brand new and it is amazing IMO

+1. I was fortunate, but if I had to do it again, I wouldn't have some of the gear in a dorm that I did.

My favorite acoustic advice. True that it works for all gear, but I find it most relevant with acoustics.

x2 on the above.

I went out looking for a Martin or Taylor and came home with a Guild that smoked all of the competition.

I also agree that expensive gear and dorms don't mix. I too was fortunate in college, had about $3K worth of music gear in my 10'x10' cell I shared with Tom the computer science geek, but it's different today, ya know, people get worse every year.

I think you should get a mid-priced or cheap cutaway acoustic and blow the other $1000 on a going-away-to-college party for yourself. Or invest, that's something you'll "wish you did when you were 18" 5, 10, 50 years from now

Get a beater and rock the hell out of it - babes don't know the difference between a high-end Guild and a $89 Rogue - and that's (babes) what music's all about right?
