Need amp suggestions..

Hi there. I need an amp. Here are my requirements:

1. Has to have good reverb
2. Has to sound great with a strat, especially clean.
3. No need for distortion/crunch, maybe a little OD but it really isn't my bag
4. Has to have transparent sound, be good with pedals
5. Needs good reverb
6. Around 1000 dollars, preferably less
7. Nothing too huge. I'm thinking a 1x12 combo. I would buy a roland JC 120 but they are enormous. I could do a 1x15 or 2x10
8. 6L6 or 6V6 only, unless it sounds exceptionally good

The sound I want is full, dimensional, textured and clean. Not a big fan of Vox, but will take suggestions.

What are my options?

Re: Need amp suggestions..

A Fender Deluxe Reverb RI. is a possibility. Relatively cheap and easy to up grade speaker and tubes to get a killer tone.

Re: Need amp suggestions..

Fender DRRI was my first thought, though they don't have a whole lot of headroom.

And have you looked for a JC55 or JC77? Not nearly as big as the JC120, but still have that killer JC clean and chorusing :D

That said, a DRRI or similar will handle any kind of gain pedals better.

Re: Need amp suggestions..

Could you specify tubes or SS, or that it does not matter? Big diff btw Roland and Fender, both nice in their own way, though.

A decent inexpensive tube amp would be the Fender Blues Deluxe, 40 watts, 1x12, a fair amount of clean headroom for a smaller club. At the prices they go for, you have plenty of room for spkr and tube mods, if you feel you need them, and still stay under a grand.

The Deluxe Reverb Reissue mentioned by earlier posters is great, a bit less clean headroom than the Blues Deluxe.

The Carvin Vintage series (tube) are good clean amps, specifically the Belair and the Nomad. The OD channel isn't all that swell, but the clean is pretty fine...good prices too. They use EL 84s, though, and while I like them, they are different than 6L6 amps.

You should get a hiwatt. Great for rock and roll and loud as a synonym for procreation that begins with f.

Re: Need amp suggestions..

with the Roland JC out, and everyone saying a DR, I'm gonna say a MESA Stereo Simul-Class 2:Ninety. They sound amazing, and will NOT distort. I've played through one without a preamp, and it works fine. Has tons of headroom.

Re: Need amp suggestions..

SF Pro/Super/Twin Reverb

Clean, warm and the reverb is the Fender signature sound.

Re: Need amp suggestions..

Deluxe Reverb...used SF if possible. It can be brought to BF specs cheaply and your amp search will be over.

peavey valveking 112. $600 all tube 1x12 50 watt combo and they even have a 2x12 100 watt if you need more power

a power amp, dude, really? no reverb and its a power amp! im not sure this is the best suggestion. of course it has loads of headroom, by plugging straight in you are hitting it with a signal that is way lower than it would typically see.

:1: hahahaha - it's reaaaaaaaaaaaal clean, and it's 6L6 powered. Besides GOD lives inside those things; Mojo is endless with a 2:Ninety. I'd reccommend a preamp to go with it, but I don't know of any clean preamps.

Until recently, when his amp tech made a custom jobbie for him, Geoff Wells (wahwah) used an early-80s Super Champ. They have enough power to play Wembley Stadium—just ask Geoff—and they leave a tiny footprint. Oh, and they lovez dem pedalz!

Of course, if you had more money to spend, I'd direct you to Tone King.
