need an answer quick on the JD pup

Re: need an answer quick on the JD pup

It's a great tele pickup... the only one I like better is my Custom Shop Overwound Broadcaster which is REALLY thick sounding... the JD is more of a vintage sound with a nice punch to it...

It's an excellent overwound vintage-style Tele bridge pickup. It seems very versatile with a good range of height adjustment because of the AII mags. It has enough umph to keep up with the Phat Cat and minihumbucker neck pickups from SD. It doesn't have a lot of high end bite, but it has a lot of low end and mid range punch while still retaining most of the high end Tele qualities (minus any ice pick).
I think it's one of the top choice in a vintage-style Tele bridge pup.

I agree. To me, it's alot like my old 8.2K alnico 5 Duncan Broadcaster pickup I've owned forever...except my 8.2K JD is alnico 2.

Alnico 2 helps makes the mids very mallable and shape-able if you're the kind of player who likes to really shape the tone with his or her hands and sque-e-e-e-ze those notes off.

If you're not skillful at shaping the tone with your hands and/or pick, the benefits of the a2 Jerry Donahue might not be obvious.

When I say that it reminds me of the Custom Custom humbucker, it's because the CC has that "shapeable" "mallable" quality to the mids too. I'm not saying they sound the same...just that they both allow me to shape the tone with my hands in a way that most pickups do not.
