Im purchasing a Fender 70s strat, rosewood neck,Ash body and gonna replace the pickups, need some ideas for a Great sounding Strat!
Looking for a full humbucker sound (single coil size)specially in the bridge positon for classic rock/hard rock music, but has to clean up good to cover BEATLES,EAGLES,60S Stuff.
Will be covering alot of HENDRIX,TROWER,SRV,LED ZEPPLIN,etc stuff also so has to be really versatile.
Was thinking of Fender Noiseless PU'S but afraid they might be to thin sounding.Any ideas out there?
Also had in mind: HOT RAILS,QUARTER POUNDERS,JBjr,etc....
Thanx alot

JB Jr, bridge, Classic stacks or Cool Rails neck and middle.

Or QUARTER POUNDERS neck and middle with the JBjr bridge would be a great set-up. I'll bet you would love those.

Yeh I did checkout the tone wizard audio samples and they all sounded the same, hard to tell the difference.Your choice is a possibility though.
Also,Musicians Friend sells a set called the Everything Axe Set with a JB jr(bridge),Duckbucker(middle) & Little 59(Neck) for $196.seems like a good price but not sure about the Duckbucker.

Jennifer Batten who plays with Jeff Beck plays the Duckbuckers. They must be good pups. The guys who use them here really like them.

Yeh I was thinking of the quarter pounders, how would they compare to say a little 59 in the neck? If you know,Which would be cleaner/fuller with more attack?

A QP is more akin to a P90 tone than a humbucer, simply because it has one coil.

I'd go with the JBjr or lil 59 bridge and some SSL1's or APS1's for the neck middle...........unless hum is an issue, them go with the classic stacks, or duckbuckers.

My APS' get a very strummy tone, but I can get a thick sound too. Some great Felder tones can be had with them or the SSL1's.

Thanx for the suggestions,Im gonna look into them.I think Im leaning towards the JBjr for the bridge so far,not sure about neck & middle yet.
Any other recomendations out there?

Re: Need AWESOME Pickups for 70's Strat!!!!

The JBjr definitely will deliver the goods. You can get some good Hell Freezes Over tones from it. Turn down the volume and pull off some Zepplin with it.

Any of the vintage output stuff will do the Hendrix to SRV stuff well, but the custom, and Hot helps give us mere mortals NOT using 13's a bit of help.

How would the Quarter pounder sound in the neck spot as compared to a little 59?
Heard Ritchie Blackmore uses them, kinda looking for that sound.Nice & clean, bitey.

Re: Need AWESOME Pickups for 70's Strat!!!!

The QP is going to have more bass and low mids with less upper mids. It will also have something akin to the snarl of a P90. It will also be susceptible to hum.

qp's have a great meaty tone but are still single coils so they will hum and dont have the same mids that a bucker will
i think the "everything axe set" might work really well for ya. hot bridge, traditional stratty middle and fat warm neck
