Hi,
This is a really good forum with tons of info, so i thought id try my luck and see if i can some help picking out some pickups for my fender mexican standard strat (sss). The guitar is an alder body with a maple neck. I can't install pickups so I really need to make sure I'm making a good purchase before I spend my money! I want to replace all 3 of the stock single coil pups, they are absolutely horrible. The bridge is extremely shrill and weak when in overdrive and clean. I can't even bear playing clean on any pup, it's impossible to just strum some nice clean rhythm without sounding either really muddy or so shrill that my ears will bleed. Middle and neck are way too muddy. I play hard rock, blues rock and blues mostly and am running though a Fender Hot Rod Deville 4x10 amp. I am pretty sure I want a humbucker in a single coil in the bridge (probably the Little 59). In the middle and neck though I'm not so sure. I was thinking of getting two fender texas specials and putting them in neck and middle, but my question is: will this cause output problems when matched with the little 59. Would this be a good setup for the above music styles? Will the Little 59 be too loud for the mid and neck pups when i switch across from the bridge? I'd also like to get a push / pull pot installed so that I can switch between pickups and between single coil and humbucker on the little 59...
I've heard the texas specials are really nice for blues leads, but what are they like for just strumming along to rhythm? I would like a setup that can handle distortion, but also can produce some nice clean & overdriven blues sounds, nice clean (but not shrill!) rhythm sounds and have a relatively stable situation in terms of output.
Any suggestions?
Thanks alot for the help, it's really appreciated.
Cheers
