Need help finding PRS wiring thread!

Hey guys, new to the forum - I've spent a good hour or so reading through threads, searching, and looking for someone to post a link to the thread about figuring out the PRS 5 way rotary switch. I found many references to the thread, and that it was in the vault, but I searched, and no luck.

If I start to lose anyone, please bear with me. I'm trying to give you all as much info as I can so I get productive responses.

I have a CE22 made in 2002. According to PRS, it is equipped with what they call the "5 Position Rotary-Hybrid Pickup System" which may or may not be the same as the Rotary setup you all refer to in many posts on here.

My problem is most likely a phase issue. This is the normal setup:

ROTARY POSITIONS

Position 10: Treble pickup

Position 9: Outside coils- deep and clear - parallel

Position 8: Series single coils – Warm version of the "in between the treble and middle pickups"

Position 7: Parallel single coils – Crisp version of the "in between the treble and middle pickups"

Position 6: Bass pickup

I have a Dimebucker and a 59 configuration I'm attempting to install.

I disassembled the Dimebucker and "rotated" the magnet.

The problem is my lack of knowledge of which way I "rotate" it.

1. Would it be correct to take the magnet (like a 2x4 piece of wood) and spin it around, so the end that was once underneath the bass side of the pickup now resides under the treble side of the pickup?

2. Or, should it be "rolled over" like one would do in bed, from their stomach to their back? I know this sounds stupid, that's why I'm asking. Stupidity is usually the root of errors. Right?

Ok, having said that. I did #1. If that was correct or not, someone will let me know here, (I hope!?). Ok, the only thing that has changed is the Dimebucker is noticeably brighter when in position 10, but it seems lacking a little bit in the low end. I'd say the mids are even less present than before. It doesn't sound like it's out of phase, as it's equal to the intensity of the neck pickup (position 6 according to PRS' schematics).

In position 9, I get what sounds like the neck pickup, both coils, but thinner.

In position 8 I get what sounds like the two pickups are split, but lacking in both volume and depth. Is this because the activated coils are cancelling each other out?

In position 7 I get basically the same as position 8.

in position 6 I get the full neck pickup on.

Any help would be sincerely appreciated. I don't trust the guitar techs around here, this is MY baby, after all. I gave up my first born (new guitar) which I swore would go to my grave, and kept this guitar. Thanks everyone!

I'm no PRS wiring expert, but if you go to the main seymour duncan site, click on support, and then there is a section labled wiring diagrams. You can select your type of pickup setup, H/H, H/S/S with loads of switch options, pot options, ect. That's where I found the two links above.

Otherwise, some of the guys who are wiring experts should be along in the morning or tomorrow sometime to help you out more specifically.

Re: Need help finding PRS wiring thread!

you have to roll the magnet like you are rolling from your back to your stomach in bed

as for the wiring, it sounds like you ended up with some out of phase action going on their ... youre gonna have to flip some wires after you read the threads

good luck

Re: Need help finding PRS wiring thread!

Update:

Thanks for the replies, so far. I've switched the magnet around, tried different wiring configurations (all the ones I could find on SD's page, and teh original wiring setup), and the only change I've gotten is that the bridge pickup (dimebucker) has an even "Strattier" sound than before. That, to me, is a bad thing. I've checked grounding connections, wires touching each other, no melted shields, nothing like that.

I am about out of options, and I don't trust the local guitar repair shops with my PRS to figure it out. I also doubt that PRS would care to respond to my request for help, though I might be wrong.

Any more help would be appreciated!
