I recently purchased a Fender GA45SCE online and it hasn't arrived yet. I've seen several of them but some of the characteristics are different on this one, which I like even more than the more common ones I've seen. I've attached some photos of it as compared to the more common style which you can see here: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/guitars/fender-ga-45sce-grand-auditorium-acoustic-electric-guitar-cutaway

I might get some of the anatomy terms wrong, but I'll do my best. I believe the top of mine is solid spruce, but the sides and back don't look like the more common rosewood to me. They're quilted on mine. The headstock on mine isn't black either. It's dark brown and has chrome tuners instead of gold. The fretboard on mine doesn't have dot inlays, but are much larger (not sure what they're called). The pick-up system on mine is Artec instead of Fishman. I believe the ornamentation around the sound hole is a bit different too. In doing a little bit of online research, I found a thread on the Fender forum from 2 years ago where a guy had the exact same question - same model number but noticeably different look (and possibly sound) than the one normally found. The photo he posted was exactly like mine too. Unfortunately, there wasn't any info provided to solve the mystery.

I had a GA43SCE and I know I'll be even happier with the GA45SCE, but I really would like to know why this one looks so much different than most of the others that are out there. Does anyone know?

Re: Need help identifying a guitar

with grover tuners and a silkscreen fender logo?

first fender ive ever seen with Grovers.

Re: Need help identifying a guitar

My expertise on Fender acoustic guitars is minimal, is it common for them to have block inlays?

and a Gibson style nut?

Re: Need help identifying a guitar

everything, down to the shape of the cutaway and the strap button location is different.

bridge pins are a different colour, the shape of the guitar is different. the fender curves inward here:

as you can see it gets narrow as it goes up, the other one doesnt.

there's binding on the other one, etc. this guitar doesnt add up to me.

Re: Need help identifying a guitar

I wouldn't have bought that knowing it's waaaaaaay different from the model you are already familiar with.

I'd say it's probably a fake, man.

Re: Need help identifying a guitar

Actually, I just sent an email to their Customer Relations department with pics. I've really got my fingers crossed. If it's a fake, there must be a lot of them out there since on my first search attempt I hit one just like it from a guy with the same questions.

Re: Need help identifying a guitar

Got it on Ebay so it's not posted anymore - The seller put it in the mail yesterday. I doubt they'd know much about it, but I suppose I could ask. The seller had lots of guitars and has sold over 13,000 items with 100% feedback.

The sold auction will still be available for 90 days :scratchch
