bought this online at least 5 years ago - it was suposed to be a Duncan 78 model P/u - it is not
I got ripped off but never checked the box until it was to late. I sent a picture to Seymour Duncan and all they could tell me is that it wasn't one of there's. There was a patent pending sticker on the bottom that fell off (don't have it). it measures 8.1K - could it ba a gibson 57 classic? thanks for any info.

Looks very much like a Gibson 57 Classic, especially if it had the "PAF" sticker on it when you got it. Definitely not Duncan. Pole screws, mounting tabs, baseplate, etc. all look correct for a Gibson.

Welcome to the forum!

It certainly doesn't look like any Custom Shop pickup, but I am no expert on the 57 Classic, either...there might be people here who know that pickup better than I do. I am sorry there are terrible people ripping others off, though. That isn't cool at all. For others looking at the thread, make sure you know what you are buying, and get lots of pictures from all angles.

If the Patent Pending sticker was black with gold lettering, definitely a '57 Classic, and an older one at that. The older ones from the 90's are sweet. I don't know when it happened but apparently there was a slight change to them somewhere in the early 2000's. Still a good pickup. And honestly, I'd take one of those over a '78 anyway. That's just me. ;)

Well maybe I got a good p/u after all - it did have a black gold PAF sticker - I got ripped off so long ago that I can't remember where or when - think it was ebay, long before Reverb was around. You guys are the best thanks for the info.
