Well today I demoed an orange rocker 30 combo and can't say enough good things about it. It was easy as hell to dial in got great tone at a low enough volume, in fact I didn't even turn it up over 3 the whole time and it sounded killer. I can't imagine how awesome that thing sounds cranked!

Anyways, as some of you may know, I demoed a mesa express 5:50 yesterday and really liked it too. The mesa was way more versatile, but harder to dial in. I think the mesa is a lot louder even on the 5 watt setting, at least how I was using it. The mesa definitely had a more modern american style tone compared to the oranges old school english sound.

Now I have to decide which I want to buy. I can get the orange for cheaper b/c there are some slightly used ones available (2 I'm eyeballing specifically), but the mesa is a lot more versatile. I don't know what to do ya'lls opinions would be much appreciated!

Re: Need help, I'm torn

I havent tried the orange, so I had to vote Mesa. I've been wanting Mesa tone for a while tho so my vote is biased.

Only you can prevent forest fires...

Oh... wait...

I meant only you can decide man. They both speak to you. Are they SO close in what you like that a price difference might make the difference? Does the modern, high gain thing interest you more? Or does that classic British brown sound interest you more? Where do you see yourself tone-wise in a year/five years? I'd probably go with the Orange because it's different and it seems that Mesa players are on every block these days. But that's me...

That's kinda what I'm thinking. I like the fact that you don't see all that many orange users around, plus they sound sick. I come from a marshall background, so the orange is a little more up my alley. If I can get a good deal on a good used orange, I'll most likely buy it.

Hmmm...I voted Mesa, I have several of their amps - there is a reason they are "on every block"

Re: Need help, I'm torn

Both are good amps. It's just down to taste...

Orange aren't exactly that unusual anymore. they were THE amp of the festival touring circuit a couple of years ago and they're all over Brit music. If you're into the hip 'unusual' amp for right now, get a Hiwatt.

However, I suggest buying with your ears.
