Need help with a recently completed mod

My Onyx LP was stripped of its neck pup electronics and for some reason, if the volume pot is up on 10 it cuts out sometimes, and I have to roll it down and roll it back up to keep it working (which does not always work and annoys me) any ideas?

Redo the solder connection to pot
Both ground and hot

After that
If it's still an issue
You have probably overheated the pot

New pot
Scuff the back where the grounds will go
Sometimes the varnish they put on the metal at the factory
Impedes the soldering

Re: Need help with a recently completed mod

does the pot move when you turn it? if the cavity is shielded it could be making contact and grounding out

Re: Need help with a recently completed mod

I had a gotoh pot do this to me it would die off right at ten like a switch. It turned out it was because i over heated it when i was soldering it in.

Re: Need help with a recently completed mod

Actually what ever happened to the can of wd40 that would sneak itself into the pics you'd post of new setups? That would have been worth a shot to spray into the pot to clear it.

Re: Need help with a recently completed mod

i wouldnt use wd40. get some contact cleaner

Re: Need help with a recently completed mod

Yeah, my thought is that it is the pot. There might be some missing material at the far end of the turn. Pots are super cheap, so I would do that first if you didn't have contact cleaner handy.

Re: Need help with a recently completed mod

I've had that issue countless times. It's always a mix of removing excess solder from the pot, and redoing all the connections in the pot.

It's worked 75% of times and the pot has lived a happy life for months and years afterwards.
The other 25%, I've replaced the pot.
