Need help with Gibson case lock..

Most that I have seen require it to be unlocked and at the set combo before changes can be made
At this point a paper clip is inserted .
Change to new combo.
Remove paper clip.
But I have no idea how to unlock it
Short of running thru each combo one after another till it opens

No, I didnt! have very limited comp access these days.. WOW! thanks! its been a rough month and I need a pick - me-up.. blew my car engine few weeks ago ($4000) and wrecked my wifes car yest.. Not to mention other personal things..thanks for the heads up!

It should, because whether there was a spring latch there or not, he was only working with the number wheels and the button. Basically, he was saying just put some left-ward pressure on the button, and spin the wheel closest to the button first until you feel the resistance give (that should be the first tumbler number), then do the wheel just to the right of that, and do the wheel farthest away from the latch button last.

thanks for the interp... Ill try alil WD 40 first and if that doesnt work, Ill try to crack it.. the way my luck has been going lately, it didnt suprise me that it wouldnt work.. be at least a month before I get to try it again..

Try going around a few times on each wheel. Probably won't work, but worth a shot.
If you still can't get it, just cut the stupid thing off, unscrew the top flippy part of it, and throw it away. Those locks are completely useless. Why would someone open your guitar case to steal it when they could just grab the handle that's a few inches away, and then walk off with it?

The locks are handy for me when I am around small children (who don't know any better); or rude, ill-mannered teenagers who SHOULD know better. Nosy hotel maids can be an issue too.
I would suggest that you take the case to a luggage store that does repairs. Odds are the repairman will have the tools and knowhow to safely deal with the lock.
I suspect that Gibson Customer Service might have an answer too.
And then there is the dynamite/napalm/sledgehammer solution......

You'd be surprised how stupid criminals can be. Aside from just stealing a guitar, that is.
Only trouble with those options is you encounter the inevitable suspicion of it being stolen.
And you blew up your car, then crashed the wife's, then locked yourself out of your guitar case? In the same year?
Buy a lottery ticket, because if that luck finally turns around....

Had this problem once with a brand new lock, the very first time I locked it. Pried it open with a butter knife and never tried locking it again.

blew the motor on my car, crashed my wifes car and locked myself out of the case all within the same MONTH!!! (30day period) Thats not even everything. Id sure love things to turn around!!
