I hope you can help me with a problem I'm trying to solve with a friend's Line6 Spider Valve 112 amp. When I turn the effects knob to an effect, such as "Blues" amber, it gives me the preset overdriven blues sound. After a few minutes, the volume lowers and the effect drops out leaving a clean tone. Then if I turn the knob either way and then back to the same, the right sound comes back for a few minutes until the effect and volume drop off again and I do the same thing over again.

It happens whether I select any preset: Blues, Twang, etc. The 2 preamp and 2 power tubes are less than a year old. I thought I read somewhere that the effects board modulator (I think that's what it's called. ??) can go bad. I've also heard that you can get electrical contact spray lube that can help with these types of problems by spraying the knobs and switches and working in the lube. Is that true and is there a certain brand/type that's best for amps and electric guitars?

By the way, this is a gigging amp that's seen a lot of bars had had a few beers spilled on it over the years. None lately though and apparently this problem just started recently.

I'd appreciate any help you can offer.

The first explanation I would give for your problem is the word "Spider". I've never had any favorable impressions of any of the Spider amps. I own a Flextone, and love it. Also love the Alchemist (except for an overheating problem which is cured by a couple fans).

Sounds like something that would better be asked on the Line 6 forum. Can't you reboot that amp? That sometimes can restore proper function.
