Need help with MBox/Protools LE

OK, I finally got ahold of an Mbox and have installed the bundled Protools LE software... Problem is that I have no idea how to record.

Protools looks absolutely nothing like I'm used to and the help section is useless.

I looked at the hardware info and it recognises the Mbox, so it should work.

Where the heck is the record button???!!! I presume that you need to add a track, so I did that. I tried using the button that looks like record at the top of the page but that didn't work. Neither did the little R next to the track, although this showed the microphone's levels. I couldn't find a way to actually get it to record.

Help!!!!!!!!!! Here's a screenshot:

Re: Need help with MBox/Protools LE

You need to "arm" the tracks you create & assign them inputs & outputs (whichever ones on the Mbox interface you want to use) before you can record audio onto them.

RTFM...its in there! Did you get a printed manual or some sorta "quick start" guide? It should've been in the box...

Maybe one of those "how to record using PT" books would help you get to know the stuff and lessen the learning curve to something more moderate.

I bought the Mbox used so there wasn't a manual for anything. I've used Acid 6.0 which I find much easier to use than Protools...

I'll search for a manual online...

You press the r next to the track you want to record on, then you press record on the main controls, then press play. away you go.

Also, pro tools 6.9.2 is a free download from the digidesign site if you have the activation code for pro tools 6.7, probably worth getting.

DAW lesson #1.... Don't dive in headfirst.

Dude, you can't just jump into Pro Tools without a manual or anything. You really need to read about it to really figure out how to work it. This thing makes ACID pale in comparison in terms of what it can do.

Re: Need help with MBox/Protools LE

The directions are included in the HELP section. The Help tab is in the upper left corner of the screen.

Go to the WINDOW drop box and select SHOW MIX, That will bring up the mix window. The record enables will be there just above the faders.

Go to WINDOW and select SHOW TRANSPORT. This will give you your transport and master record enable controls as well as your midi and counter info if you expand it.

ProTools is a really, really, really complex piece of software. It is not for "casual" users, even the LE versions. You need to read up on it and practice.

Once you've got the basics down, you will be pleased with the results. There is very little you can't do with this software.

Good luck over on the dUCk.

:yell:

The digi website will have something...but if you want to "learn" Toolz you should get a book. Even freakin' Borders has 'em now!

Call me curious...if Acid was working why'd 'ya switch to Foolz Toolz?

Re: Need help with MBox/Protools LE

Seriously, the manuals are included in the help section.

The bottom listing in the help drop box is the ProTools Reference Guide. Everything you need to get started as well as advanced editing and MIDI instructions and editing are in there.
