Need Help with Multimeter.

Hey guys, I got this multimeter and I'm not to keen on how to use, but I need to check a volume pot to see if it's good. Can anyone help me out please? :crying:

Re: Need Help with Multimeter.

Umm . . . set your multimeter to a reasonable sensitivity (less than 1kohms) attach one probe to the middle lug, attach one probe to one of the edge lugs and turn the pot. It should go from 0 to 500 (or 250k) as you turn if the thing is working.

what guitarstv, said ... plus you then want to check the 'other' outside leg to see if its motion is opposite that of the first outside leg ... if the first leg increases resistance as you rotate clockwise you want the other leg to decrease as you rotate clockwise

you also want to check to make sure that there are no unintended short circuits (zero ohms) between the case and the lugs, etc ...

Thanks guys. The volume pot was shot... I feel like a better guitar player now.
