Need help with OCD gas !

Tried a OCD ver.4 today. HOLY CRAP ! I thought my TTC was the be all end all OD/Dist. box for me, But now I gotta get one of these.:friday: The SFX-03 is still great, But it's a bit cumbersome w/t the ac adapter, And some times over the top for the Blues gigs i do. So what are the differences in the other versions?? If i had the cash I'd just buy a new ver. 4 and be done with it! But I'm hoping to score one used off fleabay. So whats up with the other ver.?? Might I be disappointed with other than a 4? What I like about this pedal is the dynamic and organic crunch you get. Very biting, But not over the top. Also very transparent when you work the vol. knob. Made in the U.S.A. is a big +

Re: Need help with OCD gas !

version 2 is my favorite. the new ones are different because they have a LED in the clipping section I think.

there is a GMD youtube video comparing all 4.

Re: Need help with OCD gas !

I've got the v3, but I haven't tried any other either. I love mine. Check out the youtube video referred to in the above post. :)

Re: Need help with OCD gas !

V4 user here...the volume taper is different on 4...some say there is less gain than the other three...gearmandude on youtube does a few comparison videos of the 4 versions...take them with a grain of salt of course!

they can be a little picky on what comes before them and after them in your signal chain?!

i've also heard they are even better at 18volts...i've yet to try that...BIG emphasis on YET!!!

Re: Need help with OCD gas !

V2, which I use, is the only one I've tried. I think it's great and at one time considered getting an additional one. I find it to be very transparent, it cleans up well with guitar volume pot, and it has tons of gain. The tone knob is very linear in response so the pedal is easy to dial in. I typically run the gain at about 9:00 with the Volume set just above unity. I almost never turn the pedal off.

It works just as well with higher gain settings, but I prefer running it more as an almost clean boost. For increased and varied flavors of dirt I run a Crunch Box and a KOT into it. That gives me, IDK .......... at least eight very useful OD preset combinations without ever bending down to spin a knob.

When I first test drove the OCD I thought I might buy one someday. I barely made it to my truck before I went back into the store and layed down the cash. I couldn't be more pleased.

I've heard the Barber LTD is similar and much more affordable at $120 - might be worth checking out (I plan on picking one up once I get the cash)

Its got great reviews over at HC

you can get an LTD for way less than $100 used...between $70-80 probably pretty easy if you're just a little patient!

Oh that's awesome - Once I get some stuff back from miami I'm gonna have a massive sale, I've been meaning to try one of those w/ an 18v power supply - Hopefully it'll sound bada$$!

edit: checked ebay and there don't seem to be any for sale right now, hopefully there will be in a month or so...

Re: Need help with OCD gas !

The Barber, while a great low gain od is nothing like the OCD. I found the OCD to be more dynamic with MUCHO more gain and harmonics. I had a version 2 for a long time and loved it.

and you're right jump...the LTD is supposed to be more of a "transparent" overdrive in the low gain spectrum!?

Re: Need help with OCD gas !

Oh, also I've heard the Monte allums mod for the DS-1 brings comparisons to the OCD, and from the sound samples it seems like they both seem to have great note clarity and a smooth, breath-y gain structure, but youtube leaves a lot to be desired in terms of sound quality so YMMV just to be safe.

Which of Monte's DS-1 mods do this? I'm also hearing that the Danocrapo cool cat drive is a shameless knock off of a ver.1 OCD ? I hate buying anything made in china.:thumbsdow But there are some convincing You Tube vids A/B- ing them. The OCD clearly is a better product, But for $25 the danocrapo seem to hold it own ?:foot:

Re: Need help with OCD gas !

I believe its the tri-gain mod plus, the one right below the new roxx mod - in the notes below the photo he calls it an "OCD on steriods" which is a trite and overused phrase, but I think it gets the message across.

I dont care where its made. Its a great pedal and very well built. Metal housing and true bypass. Ugly as hell but I can't hear much difference in it and the OCD. I know some people hate that Dano puts out copies of other pedals. But I don't understand why I don't hear people complaining about DIY clone pedals. I personaly think its awesome someone is puting out a quality product that everyone can afford. Not just people with loads of disposable income. But it is what it is...Richard

i'll try to remember to bring the OCD home tonight so you can compare them!!

what are you doing tomorrow...are ya busy...i was thinking about a visit to Gearmandude!?

Re: Need help with OCD gas !

never tried the other versions, but i have version 4 and love the heck out of it!

Re: Need help with OCD gas !

Ok, I just ordered a boss ds-1 off of ebay for a hair less than $18, I'll order the mod kit in a bit and I'll let you know what's up with the ocd comparisons. But it'll still be a few dollars less than 50, great deal if it sounds good. Also when my pedals get here from Miami, I might end up selling it and a SD-1 with a monte allums kit once I get a chance to A/B it with my kinman-modded SD-1/808 Silver (conversely, I might be selling an AnalogMan Modded pedal if I don't like it as much) so if you want a poor man's OCD (if it turns out to be so) there'll be one for sale here in a few weeks - actually if I like it I may keep it, but my pedalboard is pretty close to complete so I wouldn't bet on it...

Or you could just save up for the OCD if all else fails.

Re: Need help with OCD gas !

i think we put the Cool Cat vs. the OCD to rest yesterday afternoon...OCD for the WIN!!!

No doubt the OCD would win !! I think the impeding question is ? Can it hold it's own with the OCD? What are it's comparative short comings ? In Germandudes vids the OCD clearly has a edge.( And it should being hand build in the USA w/t high quality components) The thing that has me sold on a OCD style pedal is the touch response dynamic's & the way it responds like a tube amp. It's a feel thing that all the sound clips & video's can't convey. It won't be until around tax time wnen I can pull the trigger on the Fullertone. So until then. Is the cool cat atlest a poorman's OCD?
