Need Help...?

I was asked to play a gig on a different island. I'm not sure I'll be able to take my amp (Mesa F30)...

I play reggae through a reissue 62 tele. I need a clean tone and an overdrive (I like tubes)...

I'm not a cork sniffer, but I'd like to keep some kind of tubes in the loop.

So, I need to connect to a PA and I have these "wants"...would anyone be able to throw out some suggestions?

Aloha

Re: Need Help...?

my best advice is see what they have available. my guess is that it will be limited and i doubt anything they have will fully satisfy your needs. if they have a fender reverb tube amp you could mic it to get into the pa and use an overdrive pedal. at least that way you'd have a great clean tone to work from
id try and bring your amp if you can. i usually hate using someone elses stuff.
good luck!!

Re: Need Help...?

Thanks for your response, Jeremy.

I'm a little frustrated as I really have my sound dialed in at the moment.

If I can take my amp, what do you suggest I should do to prep it for travel. I know I should remove the tubes (obviously); should I remove the speaker as well?

Do I need any special packaging? I can't really afford flight cases and I don't know if this is going to be a common thing (so I can't really spend that much money on my capriciousness yet...).

Thanks for your patience with my noob questions.

Aloha

Re: Need Help...?

How about a crate power block and a Duncan Twin Tube pedal? Nice and lightweight, but the pedal has a tube warmth to it.

Re: Need Help...?

You know,

The Twin Tube looks beautiful...why couldn't I just connect that to a DI or speaker emulator and into a PA with a monitor back at me from the board?

Would this work?

I've been lurking here a long while admiring your amps, by the way Scott.

I wish there was someone making some kind of small mini 2 channel tube amp thingy that could plug into a PA with no hassle for the gigs with no set up/break down time...

I tried the modelor thing for awhile but it always sounded cold (my opinion); I was like a deer caught in the headlights with all the choices as well. I kept slathering all these stupid effects (my opinion) over everything and killing whatever good was there in the first place. I might as well have been playing keyboards at that point.

I'm a tele guy...that says it all...Z

Maholo!

Actually, the best thing for you in my not-so-humble opinion is a good old fashioned POD or Tonelab. Those modelers are made exactly for what you are asking. I'm really not sure if you can just plug into a pedal and then plug in a board and get good guitar sounds. The modelers are made just for that. You can find a good POD 2.X on ebay for really low prices these days.

:werd:

It might not be perfect, but it sure is an easy way to travel. POD-->DI-->mixer.

As long as you have a monitor, you'll be okay. PODs are small enough to carry on as well, or will fit easily into a suitcase.

Re: Need Help...?

I want to thank everybody for your ideas...

I decided to go with Eric's idea. The Tubeman looks like it has all the little bits and pieces I'm looking for in a travel piece.

Does anyone have any experience with it? Is there anything I should know about hooking it up to a PA?

Again, thank you all...

Z
