Maybe a Humbucker sized P-90? or maybye a Bill Lawrence 500-R?

Hmm... I'll look into those. Right now I like what I'm hearing with the Pearly Gates and the Air Classics on YouTube. Both seem to have nice cleans with some quack and both seem to overdrive well.

You would certainly need something with vintage output to get clean, uncompressed sound. The 59 will do it. The Pearly Gates will too, with an eq bump in the high end (though it doesn't do mellow jazz as well as a 59). Fusion tones and mellow jazz are very different, btw...

Yup. I really love the 59 in the area of clean, uncompressed tone, and nice overdriven tones.. I'm looking for something a bit more hi-fi, though.

See if you can find a Jackson-logoed Gotoh-stamped (on the plate) J-50N. I'm not sure how rare they are, or what Gotoh's model designation would be, but it's a very interesting neck pickup (to me anyway). It's low-output, has the clarity of the Jazz but not as much piercing highs.

Alternatively, see about an EMG HZ-3 neck.

You may also try a 59 wired for parallel, or my personal favorite, the JB wired for parallel.

You really owe it to yourself to try the Demon. Great with a 500k pot, but sounds good too with a 250k. I think you would be impressed with the Demon wired parallel with a 250 k pot.
